There is No Jazz without ZZ.

Vandoren's ZZ reeds feature a unique relationship between the heart of the reed, where the tone is produced, and the thickness of the tip, which is responsible for vibration. The result is a reed with extraordinary tone and immediate response in a free-blowing manner - even in the altissimo range. The ZZ reeds accomplish this immediate response without sacrificing brightness or tone quality. Professional saxophonists like L.A. recording artist Gary Foster, Delmark recording artist Frank Catalano, and many others have made the switch to Vandoren's ZZ reeds for both live performances and studio recordings.

According to a Vandoren reed chart, ZZ reeds feel one-half strength less thick in comparison to Vandoren Traditional reeds, and run even in strength with JAVA reeds. For example, a Vandoren ZZ strength 3 reed would feel equivalent to a Vandoren Traditional in strength 2.5.

Comments about Vandoren ZZ Tenor Saxophone Reeds:

This reed is pretty dang nice. These have been fairly nice to play jazz with. The problem (which can also be good in jazz) is that the tone that these reeds produce is slightly more buzzy than I am used to. Don't get me wrong, these reeds will make your tenor sound mean while soloing, but the buzzy sound sometimes gets annoying when you want to play more mellow, smooth tunes. So, if you are a jazzy kind of person, buy these and you'll be happier than a baby's bottom. And that's pretty happy. Also, I would have to say that I know that the more you know, the more you know you don't know. So, don't learn anything in your life or you'll find out that you are not very smart. Have a great day and never stop playing music.

Vandoren ZZ Reeds

Comments about Vandoren ZZ Tenor Saxophone Reeds:

I use Vandoren ZZ reeds for my Tenor exclusively! I have never found an "Out of the Box" playability like these. I have tried Ricco, Hempke, and LaVoz. I play a Yamaha Tenor with an OTTO Link Super Tone Master mouthpiece. I play Swing / Jazz / Big Band style music both outdoor and indoor venues. I prefer a # 2 (because I don't like to work too hard). The # 3 is also a good fit for outdoor projection. You can't go wrong with Vandoren ZZ. Sincerely, Frank Rozan AKA: Inbred Jed

Best Reeds I have ever played

from Minneapolis, MN

Comments about Vandoren ZZ Tenor Saxophone Reeds:

I play on a Vandroen V16 metal mpc, I used to use Rico Jazz Selects but decided it was time to try somthing different. The first reed I pulled out of the ZZ box was the best reed I have played in years. The response was amazing throughout the horn and was esspecially good in the low register. I would highly recomend these reeds to any of my friends.
