Handcrafted perfection.

The Comanche Electric Guitar has a swamp ash body (alder on opaque finishes) with a gorgeous figured maple top. One-piece bird's-eye maple neck is incredibly well-finished; a tinted gloss gives it a vintage vibe and a glasslike smoothness. Jumbo frets make it amazingly easy to play. Deluxe guitar hardware includes a dual-fulcrum bridge and 12:1 Ratio sealed-back tuners. Three MFD (Magnetic Field Design) Z-Coil pickups deliver excellent, clear, cutting tones.

The patented Magnetic Field Design pickups use a ceramic bar magnet installed underneath each coil, with soft-iron adjustable pole pieces to transfer the magnetic field to the surface of the pickup. By contrast, traditional alnico type pickups, such as used in the Legacy and George Fullerton models, use non-adjustable alnico pole pieces leaving the only adjustment being pickup height. The Magnetic Field Design has this adjustment, but further offers individual adjustment of each pole piece, letting the player effectively adjust the output of each string on each pickup. Magnetic Field Design (MFD) yield about twice the output per wind, making the pickup quieter while allowing a greater overall output. The sound of Magnetic Field pickups is slightly warmer with a broader frequency response.

One major Nashville session guitarist remarked that G&L Magnetic Field single-coil pickups sounded as balanced and sweet as his favorite old vintage Alnico equipped axe. The difference is that the MFD pickups sound that good right into his amp without all the EQ tweaking of his mixing console that made his other guitar sound so good. When he ran his G&L though his studio rig, he was truly amazed at the rich and warm, yet clear and sparkly sound.

Comments about G&L Comanche Electric Guitar:

I knew from the first note I played that this guitar was different. It was special, it was well-made and the designs and circuitry were something of pure genius. Now thankfully, I have had the pleasure to own/play some fantastic guitars in my young life including: a Gibson L6-S, Les Paul Studio, Les Paul Standard 1960 RI, Fender American Standard Strat, G&L ASAT Classic and a PRS 2011 Custom 24.

The G&L Comanche however, really takes the cake. I haven't played a guitar this diverse and versatile since my L6-S (which was sadly stolen!). I could switch between Santana and Stevie Ray Vaughan with ease thanks to the super switch which focuses power to either the EBG strings or the DAE strings, depending on where you place the 6-switch toggle selector. Add the dual fulcrum vibrato and you can have the sustain of John McLaughlin and the icy pickings of Albert Collins in the same song. The genius Z-coil MFD pickups can also humbuck, offering some serious heat while still retaining that unique tone that is so Fender. The best way to describe this remarkable instrument is to call it a versatile Stratocaster that is beefier than your standard Strat while just a hint softer than a Les Paul Standard (and not the swiss-cheese kind of Les Paul either). Be prepared to be amazed and pleasantly surprised by this beast, the last ingenious offering by the great Leo Fender.

I can't recommend this guitar highly enough and all other G&L guitar models. If you're a fan of pre-CBS Fender guitars with a modern flair, then G&L is the brand for you. Although the Comanche brand-new is a little expensive, it's well worth it. If the price is still too high, you can find them used for significantly less bread. It is because of their unbelievably poor resell value that G&L is one of the best hidden secrets in electric guitar/bass acquisition. Included also are locking tuners and 3 knobs for volume treble and bass. Handmade to the highest standards in America and extremely versatile, the G&L Comanche is Leo Fender's finest hour.

Glad I took the chance

Comments about G&L Comanche Electric Guitar:

Honestly, I was skeptical about making a purchase like this, especially given how little detail existed on the website. I did some homework and took a reasonable chance and am glad I did. The guitar arrived double boxed and in perfect condition. Something I was concerned about was which Neck profile this would be, as G&L offers several, but it turned out to be a very comfortable classic C. Build specs are included by G&L with every guitar. It was not of the thinner variety and not of the larger, rounder variety. Note also that the frets are actually medium-jumbo

The guitar was setup well and craftsmanship is outstanding. As for this type of guitar, it truly is very verstile, and while you can coax a variety of tones from it, you won't 100% nail the strat thing, though you will come close and with a nice helping of something unique and original to your tone. You must however be willing to use your volume and tone controls, because that is a critical element of dialing this guitar in to get the tones you want. There is a master volume and master treble and tone cut controls. Back off the bass cut significantly and maybe bring the volume down a bit and you are in strat territory. Dime everything and you are in the neighborhood of P90 to Humbucker. Really wonderful instrument, very unique and the quality of materials, fit and finish is simply outstanding.

Comments about G&L Comanche Electric Guitar:

I have played professionally for many years. I have played every brand, style and configuration of guitar you can name. Fenders, Gibsons, PRS's, Jacksons, Parkers, custom guitars of every kind you can imagine, etc. etc...yada yada yada....... No other guitar that I have ever played is even a close second. Leo Fender must have taken everything he had learned over the many years he had been designing and building guitars and developed the Comanche as his ultimate masterpiece. The Comanche is proof positive of Leo's genius. The versatility of the Comanche is absolutely amazing. If you're like me you never know from one week to the next what you're going to be playing (Rock, Jazz, Blues, Country......) This thing covers it all, and all of them quite well. The feel is fantastic, it's the only guitar I've found that feels as if it actually becomes an extension of me. I played the same Fender American Stratocaster for over 15 years, almost exclusively, and it never felt as comfortable as the very first time I picked up my Comanche. With the Comanche every note responds exactly as you want. Every note sings. The only reason I rated it at 5 stars is because there isn't a 6th star.
