Premium Sound

from Undisclosed

Comments about Sennheiser HD 280 PRO Closed-Back Headphones:

These are excellent headphones, offering a premium quality full spectrum of sound (great highs, mids, and lows) as well as sealing your music in and peripheral noise out. The ear pieces fold flat so you can easily transport them in a case with other things or by themselves. I like to flatten mine out and put them in a zip lock bag, then in a case with my other cable accessories for transport, but they could just as easily fit in many other spots due to the two-way swivel earpiece feature.

They are well designed, well padded, and very comfortable to wear, for this type of sealed, over-the-ear headphone, which I am qualifying simply because all headphones of this type are going to be heavier and hotter to wear than their smaller, non-sealed counterparts.

One thing to consider, is how you are going to likely be using them the most often. The coiled cable does not detach, so you will not be replacing it with a non-coiled or shorter one, though it is easy enough to add some length, of course. Subsequently, if you are using them in the wrong scenario, the coiled cord could seem "tuggie" or "weighty" which I found is actually the case, in the way I use them.

If you are plugging into something close by, at your waist, or right at your feet, etc., you will not have any issues with the coiled cord, and in fact will probably much prefer it. However, if you are plugging in at floor level, standing up and roaming at bit, as I am with my bass guitar and floor level peddle style multi-effects processor, you may wish, as I do, that you could remove and replace the coiled cord.

The roaming is my problem, since I do not always stand right at the peddle, which if I did, the coiled cord is perfect for. I tend to move away, to get to other pieces of equipment, at which point the coiled cable needs to stretch and tugs a bit. (Hum.., isn't that the point of a coiled cord, dude?)

The simple solution for me in my scenario has been to add about 3' of straight cable, which lets the coiled cord hang straight down my side at all times, but I would still love it if I could just put a straight 10' cord on by itself. (When not stretched, the coiled cord is about 4' long and will hang to about floor level. The tugging is not much of an issue until the cord is stretched to around 8' and up.)

Nevertheless, don't let me talk you out of these babies, because they are excellent headphones and the price is a bargain in comparison to anything else of similar type and quality. That coiled cord thing is almost a non-issue, and is just a matter of getting used to, or simply adding some length, really. But, this is a pros and cons review, after all.

Excellent sound and construction, good ergonomics.

from Cambridge, MA

Comments about Sennheiser HD 280 PRO Closed-Back Headphones:

Clean and balanced sound at all frequencies. The closed-back design strongly attenuates external noise in the mid and high frequencies; less so for bass. Good construction quality, with a very convenient one-side coiled cable. The earcups/headband fits nicely but tends to flip forward/backward unless the headband is pulled down tightly.

Pure audio bliss

from Illinois

Comments about Sennheiser HD 280 PRO Closed-Back Headphones:

I got these as a gift a few months ago. I couldn't have asked for a better set of headphones. Very comfortable, easy to wear for a long time, and incredible sound. They allow you to hear every little nuance in the music. You can hear all 4 guitars in Eagles - Hotel California, screaming guitar and vocals of Flaw, and the awesome bass lines of Korn. I use them in the amateur recording and music editing I do, and they're perfect.

Comments about Sennheiser HD 280 PRO Closed-Back Headphones:

These Headphones are amazing. You get your money's worth out of these headphones. As a student, I'm tossing stuff in and out of my backpack almost everyday. I've even stepped on these headphones a few times. The durability of these headphones is incredible, as well as the sound quality. Well worth the 100 bucks.

Excellent value and quality

Comments about Sennheiser HD 280 PRO Closed-Back Headphones:

Sennheiser knows how to make great products and these are the best around for their class and price point. They are very comfortable to wear and have great sound. Also, they fold up nicely to tuck away in a bag or case. Excellent for home studio use, AV production, or listening to your favorite music on your home stereo system. Also very handy and recommended to have a few for your pro studio. Sennheiser also has user replaceable spare parts available. Nice going Sennheiser!

Good for the price

from New Zealand

Comments about Sennheiser HD 280 PRO Closed-Back Headphones:

The Senn 280s are a pretty good headphone for their price. They have a clear, analytical sound that's very strong in the highs and a bit quiet in the bass. They block out external noise very well. They do have a couple of problems. They clamp your head quite tightly, which can get uncomfortable after a while. They get quite warm. The 280s are a great headphone for the price, but if your budget can cope, I'd suggest a step up. The AKG 271s are better but require a headphone amp. Beyerdynamics 250-80 are probably best if you don't have an amp.
