A powerful recording channel strip in a 1 rackspace unit!
The PreSonus Studio Channel is a professional channel strip combining a Class A tube preamplifier, a VCA-based compressor, and a 3-band parametric equalizer. The Studio Channel is perfect for all levels of studios. Ideal for all types of microphones, instruments, keyboards, and synths, the PreSonus Studio Channel has the sonic power and flexibility to achieve any tone you can dream of, including luscious in-your-face vocals, crystal-clear acoustic guitars, fat, solid bass guitar, dynamic acoustic piano, cracking snare, punchy bass, huge MPC tracks, and more.
Enhance your signal path
The Presonus Studio Channel was designed to outperform preamplifiers that are built-in to most recording interfaces and affordable mixers. Add a VCA-based compressor and studio-grade equalizer to the class A tube preamp and you get not only big, fat, tube tonality but also complete control of your tone and sounds. Since much of the recording process is accomplished one track at a time, you need a signal path that can deliver a variety of high quality tones and sounds, which is why the Studio Channel is a prime tool for any studio.
Class A Tube Preamplifier
The Studio Channel has everything needed to deliver big tone. The preamplifier stage of the Studio Channel is based on the award-winning BlueTube preamplifier with a high-output 12AX7 vacuum tube operating on voltages higher than other preamplifiers in its class. It delivers high headroom and big tone. Dual control Gain and Tube Drive enables a wide range of sounds from transparent and clear to edgy and overdriven.
Full-Featured VCA Compressor
The compressor in the channel strip is a fully variable ultra-fast and smooth VCA-based circuit with all of the controls needed for a wide-range of compression settings: ratio, threshold, attack, release, and gain make up. The VCA-based compressor is known for musicality as well as ultra fast attack with the ability to tame the fastest transients. From slap bass, to snare drum, to vocals, the Studio Channel's compressor stage allows you to record as hot as needed without clipping giving you total dynamic control.
Three-Band Parametric EQ
The equalizer in the PreSonus Studio Channel is like a Swiss Army pocket knife, with the ability to carve out unwanted frequencies as well as tailor your tone to enhance your sound. The custom-designed amplifiers in the EQ deliver sweet-sounding gain/cut for ultra smooth highs, deep, solid lows, and clear midrange. The mid-band of the EQ section has variable Q for controlling the width around the center point of the selected frequency. High and low frequency bands give you the option for selecting peak/dip or shelving frequencies.

Comments about PreSonus Studio Channel Tube Channel Strip:
You can drive yourself insane researching the outboard gear that's going to take your recordings to the next level. I spent 3 months reading 100's of reviews about 100's of different products in every price range and finally ended up with a pair of these channel strips on the recommendation of a buddy of mine from a "big studio" and I couldn't be happier!
My very first project out of the box with these channel strips required classical guitar (recorded direct), acoustic guitar (direct), bass (direct) and vocals. I set the channel strips up just how presonus had recommended with their very handy, and included, "setup suggestions" and began recording.
Once a simple mix was complete, I had a finished recording that completely blew away anything I had recorded without them. Exceptional warmth, headroom, presence, clarity, punch and all of the other attributes you would desire from a GREAT channel strip. You do NOT need to spend 1,000's of dollars on mic pre's, compressors and EQ's to make truly stellar recordings... take it from me!I did the homework for you and this was the best money I have ever spent on any gear period.
Comments about PreSonus Studio Channel Tube Channel Strip:
I own the Presonus studio channel preamp. I usually process signals with the computer, however, this gives me "Phantom Power", EQ, and Compression in one convenient strip. It does a really good job at shaping a sound signal. I've been mostly using this product between my Hammond organ and it's Leslie speaker. It feels as if it is tailoring the way the instrument is responding to my hands. Leslie speakers push around a lot of sound, and the EQ helps me cancel out any unwanted reverberations. (Different frequencies will cause reverberation or rattle depending on the dB level combined with the type of surfaces in a room). I have two complaints. Firstly, the push-buttons could be a little bit more sturdy in my opinion. The feel like cheap buttons and they don't always turn off and on in the way they're supposed to. A nice sturdy push/release button that you'd maybe find on a top-end mixing board would be preferred. Secondly, I do not like the power cord which has a transformer built into it. I'd prefer a standard 3-prong power chord that you'd find on big TV's, computer power supplies, etc.. I say this because I use most of my equipment live at one point or another, and power chords get stolen, broken, misplaced (etc), and I cary a surplus of 3-prongs with me! Aside from that, it's a great product if you have the need for it - and it's definitely worth the money!
