Amplify any viola or violin easily without modifications!

Headway's The Band Violin Pickup Sytem gives you a compact, durable, and easy-to-install pickup capable of providing electric amplification for your violin or viola without the need for any destructive modifications to the instrument itself.

The benefits of The Band are many: You'll get far greater volume levels before feedback compared to using a microphone. In addition to cutting feedback, The Band reduces bowing noise and body sounds and gives you the ability to filter out excessive treble. Thanks to The Band violin and viola pickup you'll have more freedom to use the stage when you're no longer tied down to your microphone stand during performances.

Just think how much faster you'll get through sound checks with this unique band-shaped pickup on your violin or viola!

The increased headroom (volume) before feedback offered by The Band pickup enables you to monitor your violin without problems from modest to high volumes.

The Band wraps around your violin under the strings and is firmly secured with 2 Velcro hook-and-loop strips in a 3-step process:

1. Pass the end of The Band pickup tube under the strings between the bridge and the tailpiece and wrap it around the violin's waist.

2. Strap the 2 ends of the tube firmly around the violin's back and secure with the provicded Velcro® strip.

3. Wrap the other provided Velcro® tape is around the first to provide additional security for the mounted pickup.

Headway's The Band instant pickup works equally well on violins and violas and is covered with a stylish black material that will not detract from your instrument's appearance.

  • Easy instant fitting and transferability
  • No modifications to instrument
  • Warmth and clarity of tone
  • Reduced feedback & body boom
  • No bowing noise
  • No batteries required
  • Plugs directly into mixing desk or combo amp

really good for the money

Comments about Headway The Band Violin Pickup System:

I am the sound engineer / bass player for a ceilidh band based in Scotland; I bought the band after not having the headroom I wanted from various microphones. The reason I choose the band for the violinist was due to the ability for the pick-up to be quickly removed and fitted by the violinist, this saved around 70 that we were quoted for installation of other pickup systems.

Build quality I have heard the band being referred to as an inner tube with a pick-up inside it. This is more or less what it is. The band part of the assembly is stiffer than a bicycle inner tube with a shinier more appealing surface with the band written in white across it. The 1/4inch jack socket is attached to the band by 3 cable ties which was not the most impressive fixing I have seen but may well be the strongest solution. These 3 cable ties also held a Velcro cable tie used for tying the band together. Further up the band there is a further Velcro strip running about 10cm along the band this gives the main grip and is what is used to clamp the band on to the violin. Due to only using the product once it would be difficult to predict the life expectancy of the product but with care installing and removing the pick up it looks as though it should be hard wearing, I would not class this product as being fragile or there being any need to handle it delicately, I would handle it the same as any SM58 microphone.

Sound The set-up used for the band is not very impressive but it would be worth noting that in this occasion no DI box was used to connect the pick-up to the desk for just a direct in to the desk as the desk was located on stage. The level out from the pick-up was relatively low compared to my bass or the microphone previously used. But with the fader up 90% and the gain turned to 90% the sound produced was much louder and clearer that anything I have used before. I did not have the head room on my amp or desk to create feedback but the volume produced was more then enough to compete with our enthusiastic drummer on an acoustic kit.

I was really happy with the sound from the pick up it was really clear but slightly too bright with a flat EQ, changing the EQ of course made a huge difference and the sound produced was very natural. The pick-up produced very nice low range where naturally the violin is very quiet and clean mid to highs.

The violist view She really enjoyed playing using it and really enjoyed the freedom of not having a mic-stand to be stuck to for the whole gig giving a much more relaxed feeling on stage. She was also really pleased with how easy it was to attach and remove and also how light it was and how little it interfered with her playing and technique.

Round up after playing with the band for around a year and struggling to achieve the volumes Id like for gig we play at using headways the band really brought the violin to the front of the mix and will allow for a much clearer sound even in tricky venues.

Simple and very effective...

Comments about Headway The Band Violin Pickup System:

I picked this unit up for use in our church. Having never used a violin pickup system I was looking for something that was easy to use and could be switched from one persons instrument to another. This unit is just the ticket. I did also get a pre-amp for it and the sound is excellent. Previously I was using different micro phones trying to get a good sound, but I was always picking up every one else on stage as well. The BAND really does a nice job. Time will tell how it hold up being taken on and off all the time.

Superior Product

Comments about Headway The Band Violin Pickup System:

The Band Pickup is amazing. I play the fiddle for a pretty loud punk band, and it's been very difficult finding a pickup that doesn't get outside interference from the sound of the other instruments. The Band System picks up my violin and only my violin, so it's perfect. It also only takes a few seconds to install, so it's pretty idiot-proof (which is a good thing for me) I've been using it for about a month now and I fully recommend it.

A pickup that sounds like a mic--a GOOD mic

Comments about Headway The Band Violin Pickup System:

Why didn't I think of this? The Band is easy to attach and remove, does not require making any modifications to your instrument, remains securely in place, and has no small parts to lose. More important than the clever design, however, is the fact that this is one of the most accurate, transparent sounding acoustic pickups I've ever heard. This is an ideal solution for amplifying a violin in a live sound reinforcement situation: Connected to a reasonably intelligible PA system, the amplified sound is virtually indistinguishable from the natural acoustic sound. The Band also offers very good rejection of ambient noise. I tried screaming directly into the piezos at the top of my lungs, and the VU meter on my soundboard barely even quivered; once it was wrapped around a violin, however, the music came through loud and clear. As with any transducer on an acoustic instrument, it will pick up any external noise that happens to resonate within the body of the violin, but it is still superior to any microphone in this regard. This fact (along with the very reasonable price) would make The Band a great choice for home recording enthusiasts or anyone else who has to record in a less than perfect acoustic environment. Although an acoustic preamp is not absolutely necessary, I would strongly recommend using one. My brother (for whom I bought this as a graduation gift) uses his Fishman Pro EQ Platinum which does the job very nicely. I would also recommend using an instrument cable with some good quality, namebrand (like Neutrik) plugs. The jack on The Band is a very tight fit (you'll need to use both hands), and some of those generic plugs aren't machined quite as precisely as they ought to be.
