Everything you want in a controller and more!
The Novation X-Station synthesizer combines a first-class 61-key keyboard, killer sounds, MIDI control, a MIDI interface and mouth-watering effects, in a compact, portable controller that can be powered with USB or batteries.
The X61 Controller employs a premium-class mechanism with semi-weighted keys and aftertouch. Even novice piano players will instantly feel the difference! Aftertouch, a joystick and the assignable X/Y touch pad controller provide you with extra dimensions of expression for your performances.
Audio And MIDI Interfaces
The Novation X-Station includes a fully featured audio interface with 2 phantom-powered, hi-quality converters, 2 Neutrik combined XLR and 1/4" inputs, digital S/PDIF out, and much more. The X-Station's dedicated headphone and monitoring connections with separate controls even allow you to work without a mixer. The onboard DSP effects processor provides instant, zero-latency multi-effects for monitoring or recording applications. Each of the X-Station's audio channels has its own effects chain. You can even record audio with effects on one channel - and use the synthesizer on the second at the same time!
On top of that, the X-Station has a MIDI Interface, allowing you to integrate external MIDI gear.
The fully featured hardware synthesizer also runs on the unique X-Station hardware thanks to its powerful DSP processor! The X-Station's 3-oscillator virtual analog synthesizer is based on the renowned Novation KS-series and is 8-voice polyphonic. The extensive control interface provides instant access to all key parameters, making it ideal for live performances.
No cables are neccessary as the synth is fully integrated: The stereo audio output is sent straight through the USB cable onto the track in your sequencer via ASIO!
The X-Station provides 2 channels of onboard multi-effects! Up to 6 effects may be used simultaneously on each channel. The palette includes chorus, delay, reverb, distortion, EQ, and even a compressor. The X-Station's effects can be routed for monitoring only (for example giving the singer some reverb while recording) or for recording as well (for example recording a guitar with chorus).
Thanks to the X-Station's unique design, synthesizer and effects for incoming audio can even be used at the same time!
Direct Remote Control
Want a first class remote control for sequencer functions? Need a hardware surface for your VST-Instruments? Would you like to remotely control other hardware from one surface? The X-Station provides the solution - no matter if you want to remote control your Access Virus or Propellarheads Reason.
The X-Station offers a total of 55 assignable physical controls, including 3 encoders, 16 pots, 9 sliders and 22 buttons. And that doesn't include the dedicated controls in the audio section. A template can have up to a massive 150 virtual controls in total using the shift functions!
Tired Of Wires?
The X-Station only needs one for everything - the USB cable. That's it. Even power is provided via USB or batteries whenever desired! So if you really want to make your recordings on the beach - take your laptop, X-Station and enjoy the sun as inspiration. But don't say we didn't warn you about the sun-burn and the sand all over your gear!

Comments about Novation X-Station 61 MIDI Controller:
This Midi Controller Keyboard has everything I needed to get my music studio started. It has a place to plug in my guitar (1/4 jack) and Mic (phantom power) and it works flawlessly with my FL Studio Producer XL and natively with Reason 4 adapted. It's amazing as a midi controller as I've tested it with all sorts of virtual instruments including Kompakt Sony Acid Pro and Native Instruments Kontakt 4. It even has a preset to work with Kontakt 4 right out of the box which is awesome!
If I had to improve one thing about the hardware, I would have made it capable of 96khz recording. Right now, the highest it can go is 24bit 48khz. But even still, it's a great all around musical instrument for recording voice, guitar, and midi data, not to mention the amazing sound library it comes pre programmed with in the first place. Try it for yourself, you'll be impressed. And you can't beat the used price either. Get it while you still can!
Comments about Novation X-Station 61 MIDI Controller:
After owning and struggling with several brands of controller keyboards, synths, etc...I believe that I've found a piece of heaven. First, the keyboard has one of the best actions in the semi-weighted category. The response is just right with beautiful touch-sensitive action. The drivers for the midi portion have remained stable for nearly two weeks...which is rather amazing in the world of controller keyboards. The synth portion of the keyboard is beautiful...with some of the classic synth sounds along with several newer sounds. The ability to manipulate the sounds is beautiful and easy to use. I use Samplitude as my sequencing/recording software...and the Novation X-Station 61 gets along with Samplitude beautifully. I'm hoping that Novation will develop a template for Samplitude (my favorite software...by far) in the near future. Regardless...this is one beautiful instrument. Knowing what I know now, I would spend a lot more to own this keyboard/synth. I use it in a semi-pro studio...but I could envision live performance as being an incredible amount of fun. The keyboard is so good that I would be very confident to use it as the controlling keyboard onstage. I've owned Yamaha, Ensoniq, Roland, and M-Audio keyboards. I would choose this instrument over some of their very best products. One weakness that I hope will be resolved soon: When you edit a sound in the synth section...you replace the pre-installed sound...without the option to save it. This is really the only complaint that I have.
