Spec'd by the Opeth frontman.

The PRS SE Mikael …kerfeldt is a guitar with features designed by the player and developed with PRS. Here's what Mikael says about his signature guitar:

"It will be single cutaway mahogany body with a flamed maple top. The neck will be of the wide-fat type and made of 3-piece maple that also goes around to the front of the headstock. Sweet! Ebony fretboard and 24 jumbo frets with extra large side dots for the 5th and 12th fret (I have fluorescent tape on my other guitars so I can sing and still see where I'm at while playing, this will look better!)."

"There will be the old-style PRS bird inlays on the fretboard. One HFS and one Vintage bass pickup thrown in with a 3-way toggle switch. PRS-style tremolo and all the hardware all will be gold (Bling! Well... It's fool's gold or something, but whatever...). The main finish is called 'tortoise shell'. The whole guitar will be high-glossed up apart from the back of the neck which I've requested to be satin matt, which is so much better for me at least."

"There will be a nice little Opeth "O" logo under the bridge as well. Comes with a gig bag. I think I might spend the LA nights with it... yes.. kinky! I think it looks stunning, oh yes I do!"

Sounds great

Comments about PRS SE Mikael Akerfeldt Electric Guitar:

This guitar is amazing for the price. The pickups are great, clean or distorted, and the tremolo doesnt detune the strings at all hardly. It was shipped by 2 day express because I could wait to get it, and when I got it, it was mostly intune; only the G was a half step down.

The sound of this instrument is great. Don't let the idea that it's a signature of a metal band scare you away from it. I play it through a Fender Frontman on clean, and it sounds GREAT. I play everything from Pink Floyd to 311 and the sound is great all around. I use a BOSS DS-1 distortion pedal as my main crunch and the crunch this guitar provides for things like Sunshine of Your Love, or Voodoo Chile, or heck, even Crossroads was AMAZING. Throw in something like a wah, and Voodoo Chile sounds VERY nice. I use a Dunlop Crybaby Original for that. Perfect sound for it in my opinion. Clean, this guitar can easily do Mr. Jones, Love Song, even some While My Guitar Gently weeps. It pulls through well.

The Tremolo sounds great as well, even if your adding some spice to your soloing, or adding some great vibrato to your chords. Add some stereo chorus and you got a nice wet, smooth sounding vibe. I use a Delta Lab SC1 chorus and a Delta Lab DD1 Delay, and the clean sounds incredible. I am very impressed.

The look of the guitar itself is great as well. The pictures DO NOT do it justice at all. The flamed maple is much more of a slight brownish-red, and the Opeth logo is a lot more subtle, while retaining its appearance. Don't let the logo scare you away from this guitar; it really adds to the experience.

The gig bag that it came with was also very nice. Very comfortable shoulder straps and very nice and large pockets. Great for lugging around my pedals. Well enough room for the guitar, while keeping nicely in place.

Overall, this is a great buy. You're getting a guitar that sounds GREAT on all levels, and can hold its own against guitars three times it price. Forget Gibsons!
