Comments about Gibson ES-165 Herb Ellis Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar to days before New Years Eve 2006. So far it's done everything I asked and more. Came from the factory with a good set up but like any good player it went directly to my guy for a once over and a good set of flat wounds. I bought this guitar because I'm a jazz player and that is all this guitar is good for, jazz. I wanted to buy a ES 175 but since I knew I'd never use the bridge pick-up I didn't see a need to spend the extra cash. Tone? Can't really say. I play jazz so for me the tone is in my hands and head. But the quality is outstanding. Thick neck, short scale, slightly heavier than the vintage models I playey. My old box was an Epiphone Emperor Regent, good axe but the 165 is just nicer. Feedback is a problem, but its a problem all Gibson archtops have, learn to live with it. Overall this is a great jazz box, jazz box only.
