A Les Paul based on Joe Bonamassa's original.

The Epiphone Joe Bonamassa 1960 Les Paul Standard “Norm Burst” Outfit is Joe’s sixth signature model. It features ProBuckers and a Lifton-style case, and is based on his rare ’60 LP Standard, made during the final year of its original production run. This outfit will prove to be rare, too—it’s available for a limited time.

The Story of the “Norm Burst”

Grammy-nominee Joe Bonamassa is known as one of the most gifted guitarists of his generation as well as a passionate collector of the Les Paul Standard—perhaps the most coveted vintage instrument of the modern era. The original was produced at the Epiphone & Gibson factory in Kalamazoo, Michigan from 1958-1960; today, those models can fetch over $250,000.

The Joe Bonamassa 1960 Les Paul Standard “Norm Burst” Outfit is a stunning recreation of Joe’s vintage 1960 LP Standard. When he purchased it, the nearly 60-year old guitar appeared brand new—all of the instrument’s original dealer paperwork and tags were still tied around the headstock. Joe remarked that of all his vintage LP Standards, the “Norm Burst” stands out as “the cleanest vintage Les Paul Standard I’ve ever seen.” It also happens to be sequentially numbered to Joe’s other Les Paul Standard from 1960 which he nicknamed “The Runt” and was found in South Africa.

AA Flame Maple Cap and “Norm Burst” Finish

The Joe Bonamassa 1960 Les Paul Standard Outfit shares the same Heritage Cherry burst finish as the original. The mahogany body has an AA flame maple cap. The mahogany neck features a SlimTaper ’60s profile with an Indian laurel fretboard, medium frets, trapezoid inlays and a Graphtech nut. According to Joe, “Those small details make the difference between an instrument you want to play versus something that stays in the case.”

ProBucker Power

The “Norm Burst” Les Paul is powered by Epiphone ProBucker humbuckers, made with the same materials as original late 1950s ’buckers: sand cast Alnico II magnets, 18% nickel silver unit bases/covers and high quality 4-conductor lead wire. Each ProBucker is vacuum wax potted to eliminate microphonics. Controls include a 3-way pickup selector and dual volume and tone pots with gold Top Hat knobs and nickel-plated dial pointers. All electronics have ’50s-style wiring with Mallory tone caps.

Rock-Solid Epiphone Hardware

Joe’s “Norm Burst” comes with Epiphone’s rock-solid nickel hardware including a non-rotating 1/4" output jack, LockTone ABR bridge and a Stopbar tailpiece. Turning is fast and reliable with Epiphone Deluxe “Tulip” keys with an 18:1 tuning ratio. The outfit includes a Lifton-style hard case decorated with Joe’s “Nerdville, CA” artwork, along with a certificate of authenticity hand-signed by Joe.
