Tone as clear as a mountain stream.

The Epiphone MB-200 is a terrific 5-string banjo for beginners that includes all the key features of a professional 5-string banjo but much lighter in weight. The MB-200 reflects Epiphone's 80-year history as a leader in banjo design. At the height of the banjo era in the 1920's, Epiphone had 11 different banjos in production and many of founder Epi Stathopoulo's patents are still in use today and can still be found in our professional banjo line. This affordadble entry-level instrument continues that tradition. It has a mahogany body and neck with a rosewood fingerboard featuring stylish inlays, and a Remo head. All in all, it's a great instrument to get your start on.

Comments about Epiphone MB-200 Banjo:

I purchased the MB-200 from Music123 in Feb '13. Although I play several instruments, this was my first banjo. My biggest factor in purchasing this instrument was the price. And at this low price, I figured even if it was a dud, it'd make a nice piece of wall art.

I was pleasantly suprised by the ease of playability of the neck. I had demo'd similarly-priced banjos that were just unplayable. But the MB-200, with the supplied bridge, was very comfortable with even string height and action up the neck. Although some initial set-up was required (setting bridge/intonation) I was up and plucking in about 15 mins.

My only bummer was the screen-print eagle decal on the back was way off-center (not even close!) However, no one sees this when you're playing and I did not want to risk returning it for one that might not play as well. Also, finish described as Red-Brown was more of a grayish-brown. Still very nice, but definitely not reddish at all. Very beautiful instrument altogether. Wonderful inlay job.

MB-200 is great for around-the-house practicing and jamming with friends. Great tone and decent volume. Excellent value in my book!

Pretty good for a beginner

Comments about Epiphone MB-200 Banjo:

I wasn't sure what to expect from this banjo, but it turned out to be a pretty solid purchase. I had a couple of setup issues when I got it, but they were easily fixed - a missing bolt to hold the back on to the head which Gibson mailed to me, and a slight amount of trimming needed on the bridge to remove a buzz.

The head had good tension on it so the sounds was good and loud, and I had no tuning issues, not even on the top G string.

Plays well and has a sweet sound. I'd recommend it to any beginner or intermediate player.
