Designed to sonically replicate the sound of Stewart Copeland's snare used on all those Police hits.

The Stewart Copeland snare drum, a Tama signature model, is a faithful reproduction of the snare drum of "mysterious provenance" that Stewart used with the Police and everything else from that time period. This Copeland snare sound easily penetrates what he describes as "the dirge from the bass and the ear-piecing sounds of a guitar." That penetrating sound is the result of combining a die-cast batter hoop and a triple-flanged bottom hoop with a brass shell that is 0.5mm thicker than the standard 1mm shell.

In trying to replicate Stewart Copeland's snare drum on which he recorded all those Police hits, Tama measured the diameter and all of the specs until it came down to metallurgy--the mixture of metals metals. After many prototypes, Tama matched the sound of Copeland's original and set up production to duplicate it consistently. Now you can capture that punchy, piercing sound in your kit.

My Favorite Snare

from PDX

Comments about Tama Stewart Copeland SC145 Signature Snare:

I play a wide range of gigs (funk, jazz, noise) and this is my most versatile snare. The biggest benefit of having this snare in your arsenal is it's amazing crack when tuned higher (using a coated Remo Ambassador). This baby producers more volume than my Tama Rosewood, Birch, Maple and Steel snares. Worth the investment (plus it looks pretty nice).

A solid rock/funk snare drum

from London

Comments about Tama Stewart Copeland SC145 Signature Snare:

This snare is definitely one of the better mid range snares. It is responsive, fast, packs a cracking back beat, and looks good to boot! Ideally suited to ska drumming a la S.Copeland or any rock or funk out fit where it is important to be able to distinguish the nuances being played on the snare. If you're looking to upgrade your snare, or just add to your arsenal, you can't go wrong by investing in this bit of hardware. Beware though, it is heavy and loud!

You have no idea what you're missing.

Comments about Tama Stewart Copeland SC145 Signature Snare:

If you're looking for a snare drum with shrill power, finely spread attack and an audacious amount of body, then you'll look no further than this snare. From the moment I hit it, to the second it stopped resonating, chills were running down my spine. Full bodied sound is backed by a heart-thumping amount of pulse-pounding attack in any tuning spectrum. While it does sound better in it's higher tunning bracket, (which I would recommend for the sensitivity that this thing can give you) you can tune it down lower to meet the dirge of your bass drum. In conjunction with the shell being .5mm thicker than most snares its size, It also has triple flanged hoops, or "accu-tune" as they're usually called. This means even tuning, so there's not as much fuss over getting an even amount of torque on each lug, and it will stay in tune longer. It also boasts a very smooth strainer. Either way it's pretty on the eyes, and ears.
