Mega Tone mouthpieces employ more than double the mass of ordinary models to produce the darker sound cherished by many jazz and symphonic players. A slightly larger throat affords less resistance and greater flexibility resulting in warmer, more powerful sound.

I play a MegaTone 1C for 7 years now and I'm still getting compliments about my tone-quality/sound.One pro asked me one time if I played the solo on a flugelhorn! That's what I call a wanted sound (for me!)I use it most the time for symphonic pieces...sometimes heavy/rock pieces with our orchestra...but all the times it fit's into the group!Ok.....I switched from a standard VB 1C to this MegaTone 1C....I could recommend it...but you have to train a little bit to make the mouthpiece yours. (in the beginning you have to work harder because you get more resistance)

There is not a one-size fits all trumpet mouth piece. I have played the Bach 3C mouth piece for years, but I noticed a deterioration in the quality of my playing. I tried the Megatone 1 D. It was very good for me in the lower register. The volume and quality of the tone were better than my 3C, but I had more difficulty with the scale above the top line F. I suggest that trumpet players try several mouth pieces. We all have different lips and teeth structure, and I am sure that some players find the 1D a great mouth piece. Just don't be discouraged if you try it and don't like it. Try another one. I did. The Megatone 1-1/2 C works great for me.

Comments about Bach Mega Tone Trumpet Mouthpiece:

I use a Megatone 1D with my Conn 52BSP trumpet. The combination of the two gives me the very best tone I could hope for. I've been complimented on my tone by members of our concert band (not other trumpet players). I've also used this mouthpiece with my Bach Model 198 trumpet and I like that combination as well. My ability to play high notes has not been hampered, especially when ti comes to passages up there in the ether.

      Very nice mouthpiece

Comments about Bach Mega Tone Trumpet Mouthpiece:

The results of a Mega Tone mouthpiece may possibly vary depending on the instrument. It supposedly darkens the tone, but on my Stradivarius, it actually makes the fundamental pitch slightly louder, without affecting the overtones, thus making the sound a little punchier. (I compared the sound between a regular Bach 1-1/2C and a Mega Tone 1-1/2C.) I don't know if that has something to do with my "Sterling Plus" bell or not. Nevertheless, the sound quality is slightly improved, and the larger throat (.147" vs .141") helps me out by reducing the resistance. For those people, however, who would like a larger throat without paying the higher cost of the Mega Tone, some regular-style Bach mouthpieces also have larger throats, like the 5V, the 5MV, and the 5SV.

Comments about Bach Mega Tone Trumpet Mouthpiece:

This mouthpiece works very well just as it is described. It also solidifies your tone throughout your register. If you are shaky in your range, I recommend this MP. Not only does it help all of this, but it looks better than your average MP.

Give this mouthpiece a try, it can help

Comments about Bach Mega Tone Trumpet Mouthpiece:

I have had endurance problems ever since I started playing my horn seriously. No matter how much I worked long tones and chop builders, nothing seemed to really help me. I played on a 3c bach and a German strad trumpet which produced a great tone, I just couldn't keep that tone going for long playing sessions. When I decided to try a new mouthpiece I looked at several small cupped schilke's but I didn't like the thin tone, even if it was easier to play high. When I found a 5b MEGAtone I was hooked. After playing on it for 3-4 weeks my endurance has improved greatly along with my tone, pitch center and dynamic control. My range has increased some as well. These mouthpieces look good, play good, and do what the manufacturers say they will do for most people. Great buy.

Solid mouthpiece, but the extra weight made little to no difference

      By

      from Austin, TX

Comments about Bach Mega Tone Trumpet Mouthpiece:

After reading a few of the reviews and learning the rationale of a heavier mouthpiece, I decided to give the Mega Tone a try. I had been playing a standard Bach 3C, and ordered the Mega Tone 3C for a direct comparison. After playing it for a few weeks, I honestly couldn't hear a notable difference. I even compared a spectral analysis of both my standard Bach 3C and the Mega Tone through Soundforge across a 2 octave range, and, again, there were no meaningful distinctions (I play a 1982 Bach Strad 37). The Mega Tone might make a difference for some players/equipment, but not for me.

The best (unmodified) mouthpiece on the market.

      By

Comments about Bach Mega Tone Trumpet Mouthpiece:

I purchased the Bach Mega Tone 1E mouthpiece for my (B)flat trumpet, and the initial differentiation I noticed was that I was able to put a lot more air through my instrument. Then, everything else worked like a well oiled machine. I love to play and squeal out notes that challenge my playing ability. This mouthpiece helps for notes above quad. "C", but gives surprisingly good tone quality in the pedal notes. A must buy! The gold plated version offers a slightly darker tone. Recommended to anybody, beginners and experts alike.

Comments about Bach Mega Tone Trumpet Mouthpiece:

For me the 1 1/2 C has great responsiveness and fitting for the different types of playing I do. I love the feel of the mouthpiece I prefer Yamaha horns but I love Bach's mouthpieces.
