A truckload of bass rigs in a single rackspace!

A 1U rackmount version of SansAmp Bass Driver DI, and then some
Most controls are the same as SansAmp Bass Driver DI:
Drive adjusts the overall amount of gain and overdrive; Presence brings out the upper harmonic content and attack; Blend allows you to mix the direct instrument signal with SansAmp Tube Amplifier Emulation circuitry; and active Bass and Treble controls cut or boost ±12dB.So what's different about SansAmp RBI?
SansAmp RBI features a dedicated Mid control; individual Level control for the XLR out to optimize your amp's output relative to the P.A. system; Effects Loop; Mix 50/50 switch to configure the Effects Loop in series or parallel; 1/4" rear input and XLR output with select- able levels; buffered uneffected XLR output to run a dry signal to a separate channel; Footswitch input to engage unit; and Footswitch output to chain and toggle between another SansAmp RBI.Streamline your setup --physically and financially.
SansAmp RBI gives you a truckload of bass amp rigs in a single rackspace. When you start with a solid foundation of tone, you can travel as heavy or light as you like: Float into any studio with just a SansAmp RBI and plug directly into the board. Go to a gig with a SansAmp RBI, a Bass Power Wedge 60 (see optional accessories below) and run directly through the house P.A. system. Take a more "traditional" set-up to a gig with a SansAmp RBI, power amp and speaker cabinet, and run directly through the house P.A. system.
In case you were wondering, you can switch between sounds by chaining to another SansAmp RBI. If you prefer programmability, please consider our own "not-just-for-guitar" SansAmp PSA-1. There are 10 presets devoted to bass and 49 user-definable locations for storing custom settings.

  • Puts all of its predecessor's preamp tone-shaping and fattening control in a single rackspace
  • Dedicated mid control
  • Individual level control for the XLR out to optimize your amp's output relative to the PA
  • An effects loop
  • Mix 50/50 switch
  • 2 XLR outputs, one with level selection and a buffered unaffected XLR for running a dry signal to another channel
  • 2 footswitch inputs: on/off and an output for chaining and toggling between 2 SansAmps

ive been playing with this and a power amp for the last few years and have never had one problem with it. the tone is amazing and with a good power amp you can get anything your looking for. its easy to work and way cheaper than buying a dumb tubed head ive owned orange ive owned every ampeg around and you cant beat this for the price! if your looking for good tone that can last forever start your rig with the rbi you wont regret it.

Stay away from tube amps and pick up the SansAmp RBI.

Comments about Tech 21 Sansamp RBI Rackmount Bass Tube Amp Emulator:

Well nothing is going to sound like a real tube amp, of course. But if you want solid-state reliability, in 1 rack space, and still get a tube sound, then the SansAmp RBI is a good investment.

It's great for recording. And if you listen to the playback, you can't tell the difference between the SansAmp and a real tube amp.

For live gigs, I run it thru the effects loop of the SWR SM-900. I found that the bass control on the SansAmp is "stronger" than the bass control of the SWR. And when I have to run into the PA, I run a cable out of the SWR's tuner-out, into the SansAmp, and then run the SansAmp's XLR into the mixer or stage snake.

It has a dedicated presence control for extra highs. But I keep it a third of the way up so it doesn't sound so bright.

To get that "tube crunch" sound, I turn up the drive control about half way.

I found that if you turn the blend control all the way up, it eliminates the "bass twang" a little bit and gives you a subtle sound. So I keep the blend about two-thirds of the way up. But the more you turn up the blend, the more of an SVT sound you get.

What would really top this unit off is if it had a real pre-amp tube inside of it. It's very versatile.

Wouldn't know what to do without it. Amazing how it made an already good sounding rig even better. One purchase you will not regret. I love it!!

Comments about Tech 21 Sansamp RBI Rackmount Bass Tube Amp Emulator:

If your looking for good, solid, professional bass tone this is it. The only problem is, once I used it I never wanted to play without it again! It dishes out rich, fat tube tone. From vintage Ampeg SVT or Fender Bassman tones to more modern Tool-ish tones. It also brings out a lot of dynamics to your playing. Things that tend to get swallowed up by the band. I actually have to learn to play "lighter" because of it. I finally found the tone I had in my head. And it's so painfully easy to use it's scary.
