Comments about Orange Amplifiers Dual Terror DT30H 30W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Orange Amps have a history of producing solidly built products. The Dual Terror continues this tradition. Featuring 2 channels of class A power, the DT is quite different than most 2 channel rigs. Instead of having a 'clean' channel and a 'drive' channel, Orange gives both channels full drive capabilities. This lets you choose your own tones for lead or rhythm, and can they ever sing! The Tiny Terror channel is filled with rich harmonic distortion that can run from edgy clean to Texas twang to paint peeling crunch. The Fat channel is voiced a bit darker with a touch more gain but otherwise is just as versatile. The really cool thing is this rig is very touch sensitive. Even at full gain it responds to subtle picking changes like a champ.
The controls on the DT might seem minimal, but work very effectively. Each channel has Gain, Tone, and Volume controls but believe me its enough. Dialing up multiple tones is quick and easy. There are also switches on the DT that adjust the power level from 7 to 15 to 30 watts. These switches do more than adjust the output level, they help structure tone. The switch on the rear of the amp selects either 2 or 4 output tubes giving you control over how much power tube distortion or headroom you want to use. The front switch marked full/half power is a bit more devious. It reduces the internal voltage much like a variac. This changes the tonal character of the amp and when used with the rear switch gives even more tonal variations. This rig really lets your guitars tone shine through.
Bottom line here is this amp is extremely versatile. I've added it to my live arsenal and am looking forward to recording with it this spring. I gave this amp a 9 because there is no such thing as a perfect 10 in the land of tone. Enjoy.
