Go solid state or tube with ample power.

The Markbass Little Mark Tube 800 bass amp head solves the "tube or solid state" dilemma. But it goes a step further by addressing that other perennial concern, "Will I have enough power?" The 800 watts from this powerful bass amp will satisfy any thirst for power, and the two bendable preamps give you the warmth and richness of a tube preamp, the clean attack of a solid state preamp, or a mix of both. The Markbass head features a mix control for mixing between solid state and tube. The result offers a range of sounds, from the crisp sound in the solid state, to a full, heavy tube sound in the tube state, as well as anything in between. On the front panel there are two inputs with separate gain controls: one 1/4" jack, and one combo jack that accepts either an XLR or 1/4". The Vintage Loudspeaker Emulator (VLE) and Variable Preshape Filter (VPF) allow access to a wide array of timbres, from classic tones to modern hi-fi sound. The Little Mark Tube 800's phantom power switch accompanies the XLR input, for using a microphone on a double bass. Mute control is as simple as a push and a pull on the master volume switch. Additional features include four bands of equalization, line out control, and pre-post EQ switch for the XLR out (on the rear panel). Markbass Little Mark amps and combos are manufactured to be sold and used in the country of purchase, and they are factory preset to that country's voltage. Due to homologation issues, the voltage may not be changed. Rack ears not included. The head features a single 6205 miniature tube.

Comments about Markbass Little Mark Tube 800 Bass Amp Head:

First of all, the "tube" setting and solid-state setting sound EXACTLY the same. I don't think it has a standard 12AX7 pre-amp tube like you would expect.

Secondly, I don't know you would need an XLR input with Phantom Power on a bass amp.

The Vintage Loudspeaker Emulator (VLE) doesn't do anything but muffle your sound. I didn't hear the difference between using the VLE and turning the treble all the way down.

THe EQ is fairly simple: Low, Low-mid, Hi-mid and High. But you can get all kinds of sounds with the EQ. For the price, I would expect at least a 2-band parametric or a 7-band graphic.

It sounds great for a small portable amp. But the selling point for me would be, not so much the power output, but the tone and EQ.

Comments about Markbass Little Mark Tube 800 Bass Amp Head:

The MarkBass Little Mark Tube is an excellent head. I used to own a MarkBass Little Mark II amp, which I replaced with this one. The ability to mix from crystal clear solid state to raunchy tube grind is definitely a major benefit of this amp. Aditionally, I've also used an A/B pedal to use both inputs set at different gain levels to give myself a boost before. The amp is very smooth, quiet, and takes effects very very well. I've had absolutely no issues with it through either a single GK 2x12 Neo cab, or a matched pair of the same. I will say though, that if you're looking for an amp that is for smaller venues this definitely isn't the amp for you. When I've had to take it to smaller places the master volume has been at or below 9:00 which loses quite a bit of the character of the amp.
