Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB200 200W Ultra Light Bass Amp Head:

I got this great little amp from music123 second hand, got delivered to australia in less than a week ,amaizing thats all i can say.when i received it all i had to do is open the cover which is by the way high quality build nice and sturdy and switch the jumper from 110 to 230v.its pretty much the same as a pc jumper.its got 3 pins and you move the jumper to the desired voltage, simple.its pretty loud for 200w i paired it with tc electronic bc 2x10 cab.the sound is nice, clean and punchy.not very tweekeble with the 4 band eq but you dont have to go far to dial a good sound..the contour switch is usable when slaping, and it also has a switch if your using a active bass.the only negative i can think of is the screws they used for the cover,2 of the wont come out so i had to drilled them through.other wise perfect unit super light weight , fits in your gig bag, awesome sound i recomend this to every bass player in the world.

Surprising quality for such a light weight head

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB200 200W Ultra Light Bass Amp Head:

I'm really impressed by the sound quality on this thing. I used a Backline 600 a few years ago, then got a Line 6 HD400 because I wanted to experiment with all the different amp models. I ended up only using one preset on that thing and could never quite find the tone I wanted. With just the 4 band eq on this MB200, I was able to dial in a great tone very quickly.

I am deducting a few points off the rating for two reasons. First, I've had issues in the past with needing to use the ground/lift switch to eliminate a hum when using the direct out from previous amps. I have since started using an MXR M-80 DI for home recordings, so I can just use it as a preamp and DI box if I have any issues with this amp's direct out.

The second thing I docked for is that I had to send my first unit back because it was defective. When I first hooked up my original MB200, I had no sound being sent to my speaker cab. After a few minutes of fiddling with my cables and connections, the amp randomly decided to work. During the first practice that I used the amp, the sound kept cutting in and out. I switched from a speakon cable to a 1/4" speaker cable, but continued having the same issue. I had to return the amp and wait about 3 weeks to receive my replacement because they were on backorder by that time.

Anyway, all is good now and I'm pretty impressed with this amp. Just one other thing that I'm slightly disappointed in is that Gallien-Krueger has not made rack ears for this model. I'm going to figure out a way to rig up the MB500 rack ears to mount this in my rack case so that I can haul it around safely housed with my other rackmounted gear.
