A jewel !
Comments about Yanagisawa Model SN-981 Professional Sopranino Sax:
A very intelligent adaptation of the Selmer Mark VI design, this little jewel is an amazing piece of work. Smooth, perfectly pitched, plays like a dream, with keys placed just where they should (especially the Eb / C keys). The Yanagisawa people demonstrate here how smart they are in having carefully studied and incorporated the best of all brands of sopraninos. It only goes up to high E, but this magnificent horn is a delight on all counts.

Beautiful horn.
Comments about Yanagisawa Model SN-981 Professional Sopranino Sax:
I have been playing the soprano, alto, and tenor saxes for years, and haven't seen a sopranino in person until I got my hands on this Yanagisawa. It blows alot easier than my custom black Yanagisawa soprano. This is an amazing instrument from the low Bb to the high E. (and even higher) . It's an octave above the Alto's register, so I can play alot of my alto solos up an octave and in a different timbre.

Excellent horn
Comments about Yanagisawa Model SN-981 Professional Sopranino Sax:
This is a great little saxophone. I have found it's response to be very consistent throughout the entire range. It can produce a wide dynamic range, from mellow subtones to bright full-bodied tone, using the supplied mouthpiece with a Van Doren #3 reed ( I was amazed at how loud this horn could play a low 'Bb');. I have been using the sopranino in a 1930's swing band as a replacement for the lead clarinet ( play the part a 4th down ), it is great for soloing. I also use it occasionally in a concert band as a replacement for the Eb Clarinet. The horn is well made - I haven't needed any service on it since I purchased it! I did find the intonation a little sharp around high 'A' but have learned to compensate for it. I also found the placement of the right hand - little finger 'Eb' to be somewhat awkward.
