great, but pricey

By Matt-ItYUU

Comments about Yamaha YPC-81 Professional Piccolo:

I had the opportunity to play this piccolo today, with both the sterling headjoint and the grenadilla one. I have to say that while I felt that the tone of this instrument was very pleasing, the mechanism was a bit of a letdown. The lower notes, Bb on down, are very clear and responsive which was a nice surprise. The midrange, from Eb to about F# is a bit more difficult to produce a good tone, like most piccolos. The high notes are extremely clear and responsive but not piercing, which is a huge problem with a lot of piccolos. I personally prefer the sterling headjoint over the grenadilla because of it's clarity and projection, but the grenadilla would be nice for small ensembles. I am still giving this piccolo a 5 star rating because of the fact that it is indeed a great instrument.

This Piccolo ,is the One!

By Richard Chameroy

from San rancisco CA

Comments about Yamaha YPC-81 Professional Piccolo:

I am professional Flutist that lives in San Francisco, CA. I have tried every Piccolo from Burkhart to Zetners. Which are nice, but not for my discriminating tastes! About a year ago, a friend of mine and I, where shopping at a Music Store in the South SF area when I pondered upon this model and make of the Yamaha YPC81. I have very big hands and my fingers never fit onto the cups of other Piccolos, that I tried. Usually the cups have been too curved for my large fingers.I picked up this Yamaha Piccolo and it played with all the qualities that I look for in the best handmade Flutes and Piccolos. The scale and craftsmanship, blend, core and the integrity of the YPC-81 Piccolo was undoubtedly the best I have ever had the pleasure of putting my BIG Hands, on. So after searching online and getting quotes I came across the Woodwind and Brasswind deal of a life time. Once again, I am dancing on the tops of tables and Laughing again. This is one great playing Piccolo in all aspects of playing from Scales to Orchestral and music written for Solo Piccolo, works. I highly recommend that you get one if you are deciding to purchase a Professional Piccolo. My hats are off to Yamaha and WWBW for the excellent service dept as well...

Wonderful "little flute"

Comments about Yamaha YPC-81 Professional Piccolo:

I am a college sophomore studying music performance at Central Michigan University. I waited almost a year to purchase this instrument and looked around at all of the competitors in this instrument's price range. I own a Yamaha flute 674 GPLP and enjoyed it, so I took a chance a ordered a 62 piccolo. I am overjoyed that I did this. In the words of my old tutor, who is the piccolo player of the Grand Rapids Symphony, "A wonderful little instrument, I'm surprised how well it plays, you better get this one!" I've had several lessons on piccolo with her this summer, and she still says it's a wonderful little instrument. I couldn't agree more.

Not as easy to play as others

By Denise C.

from Chicago, IL USA

Comments about Yamaha YPC-81 Professional Piccolo:

First wood piccolo I ever purchased. Lower range notes tend to be very flat (almost 1/2 step)but easy to produce- B flat and below. Very hard to produce mid range F, F#, G than other piccolos that I have played. Very easy to play high notes with excellent sound. Super high B & B flat hard to produce. High notes tend to be very sharp. Have to adjust to accommodate these by rolling instrument in or out. Good quality for nice sound, instrument purchased for concert/orchestral playing.

Comments about Yamaha YPC-81 Professional Piccolo:

First of all I loved this instrument. Its quality, and sound surpassed most others. I played this piccolo in my high school honors band and now I am playing it in college. You are able to build and grow into a more productive and mature musician.
