Perfectly suited to the beginning student.

Key of C. Plateau model, offset G, silver-plated. Includes YAC-1310 case.

The headjoint, body, and footjoint of these Standard series flutes are made of durable nickel silver. Neoprene bumpers are used rather than cork to increase durability and achieve a maximum fit against the body. This model has been improved with the following new features: a stronger post design to prevent bending of the posts, easily accessible adjustment screws, an improved adjustment screw material, and a body marking for proper positioning of the footjoint. The Yamaha Standard flutes have become a favorite among teachers because of the open sound and easy playability.
All Yamaha wind instruments come with a limited 5-year warranty.

I have had my Yamaha flute for three years and it has broken twice. The case hinges are very bad and came open in my locker causing it to fall about three inches to the carpeted floor. It was slightly damaged, however when it was fixed the A flat was majorly out of tune. I had to send it away to be tuned twice and it has seemed to go right back to being flat. Other than that I would recommend this flute to anyone just starting out or for use in marching band in all sorts of weather. Not a good choice for an advancing student looking for a step up flute.

The Building Blocks of Stars.

Comments about Yamaha YFL-221 Student Flute:

A lovely flute, I have done a lot of concerts on this flute, to the pleasing of many an audience. I actually got this flute 2nd hand, the person before me had it for 13 years, making it 20 years old. I have only ever had one problem with it, and that was carelessness (I banged it on the stand changing from flute to pick and have since bought a flute stand and pick stand). Yamaha are definitely a brand that make instruments that really will keep their worth. However, as I said, I have had this flute for seven years. That, I think, is just enough time. It is not an intermediate series flute, and unless music is just a fleeting phase, I suggest investing in a better model after no more than 7 in favor of something with more silver content, open holed keys and possibly handmade keywork. Trust me, you will be surprised by the lighter touch and more resonant sound. As basic as the model is though, it saw me through some really tough pieces (Variations on a Theme of Rossini-Chopin, Morceau de Concourse-Faure, Romance-Saint-Saens) and is worth getting to see if you really are serious about the flute or if it's just a passing hobby.

GREAT FLUTE!!

By Joan Lee

Comments about Yamaha YFL-221 Student Flute:

The Yamaha 221 is the best beginner, intermediate, or advanced flute I could recommend to anyone. It has exceptional tone!! I have been playing for three years now and think that this flute is very easy to play. In fact, I am teaching my friend who plays clarinet to play this flute! I would always choose Yamaha over Gemeinhardt. Yamaha has better tone and better range unlike the Gemeinhardt which refuses to play well in the lower register. If you are looking for a great flute this Yamaha is the one for you!

This is a great flute. Yamaha is a great brand. I have a Yamaha Bb clarinet, acoustic guitar, and keyboard and they are all very durable and have lasted. I would recommend this flute.

Extremely easy to learn on and easy to get attached to.

Comments about Yamaha YFL-221 Student Flute:

This was my first flute and the only flute I've ever owned. It was so comfortable to learn on as a beginner and I've gotten so attached to it. Yamaha is a great brand and very popular with student models, so that's why I went with it. It's a smart move going for this one.

Excellent for begginers

By Tye Yamagata

from San Jose, CA

Comments about Yamaha YFL-221 Student Flute:

I had never touched a flute before in my life. Actually, I'm an alto saxophonist but as soon as I grabbed a hold of this flute, I easily slid into the flute-scene. The only problem I had with this flute is that it doesn't have an automatic playing mechanism, but it is probably the next best thing because it is so easy to get a great sound out of it.
