Comments about Vandoren Reed Hygrocase:
The hygrocase is pricey but IMO very worse it. Before using one of these, I used to leave my reeds in water but they became unresponsive (water-logged) and if I left them to dry they just warped. So the intermediate solution for me was to use a Selmer reed case and put some slightly moist super-absorbent kind of spongy thing on top of the tip of the reeds. But the Hygrocase is awesome. It keeps my reeds ready to play at all times. You can monitor the humidity levels on the little LCD screen and leave the case open or add some water if it's too humid or not enough. Most of the time, playing a reed and putting in back in the case brings enough moisture for the rest of the case. Some people have had problems with mold and I noticed some weird smells at first so what I do now is let new reeds soak in a solution of 1/5 mouthwash 4/5 water for a few minutes and then I don't have to worry about it for the rest of the life of the reeds. I play sax for a living so I need reeds that play. The hygrocase gives me just that. My reeds are ready to play at all times, they last longer and don't need as much adjustments through their life.
