oboe is stupendous!
Comments about Selmer Model 123FB Intermediate Oboe:
i recomend this for all, even beginners, sounds great, looks great. Overall I would say the only flaw is the color, other than that, on a scale of 1 to 5 this oboe is an A. :-)

A plastic one but a good one
Comments about Selmer Model 123FB Intermediate Oboe:
Bought a used plastic Selmer 123F in very good shape to use as backup instrument in bad weather.I was really very surprised by the sweet sound and the easy play compared with my wooden oboe.Being a bit more than a student model the Selmer 123F keywork has some simplifications: e.g. lacks left F, D/D# split ring, cannot do Bb with C# and has not third octave key.The instrument is in tune from low D downward only after careful warm up ( 5 - 10 minutes at least ) and even after that is a bit on the lower side. Perhaps can be tweaked on the reed. The only real problem is the forked F resonance that is dull, but if you use the alternate fingering adding D# key the F is OK. Of course all the pads must be in good work order to have a good instrument.Seems to me easy to fill with water the first and second octave key during warm-up: just clean it with cigarette paper and hard blow after few minutes and all will go fine .Basically easy blowing horn with a sweet sound, good for students , cannot be used for advanced work.
