J & D Hite

The unique design of this tenor mouthpiece features a moderately high baffle to give color and strength while avoiding a thin, edgy, "laser beam" sound. You can blend in with a section, or you can stand up and be heard! Model 128.

A follow-up review after 2 years...

By Mike Ruhl-R0buP

Comments about J & D Hite Artist Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece:

I've now been playing my Hite 128 (Artist) model on my King Super 20 tenor for over 2 years now, and still think it's one the most versatile mouthpieces available. The chamber of this mouthpiece is round and smooth, with no break in the throat (the transition area from the chamber to the bore). In my experience, this type of design gives the best pure saxophone sound, and the best response across the full range of the horn. The tip opening is in the medium-open range, and medium-hard reeds work very well with it. I prefer #4 Vandoren V16, LaVoz Hard, or #4 Fibracell reeds. It even plays great with a #3 Rico baritone sax reed. I did remove the thin black bite patch that comes installed on the mouthpiece, and replaced it with a clear Runyon bite patch. And while the Hite ligature that comes with this mouthpiece is exceppent, I use either a Rovner Dark or Light ligature, just because I prefer Rovners.I highly recommend the Hite Artist tenor mouthpiece to anyone looking for one mouthpiece for a variety of playing situations. By simply varying reed/ligature combinations, this mouthpiece can easily serve very well for concert band or jazz ensembles.Note: The beak of this mouthpiece is somewhat smaller than the standard tenor mouthpiece, and may take some getting used to. If you're an alto player making the transition to tenor, this is the mouthpiece to get.

All Advertisements are True

By PB-lJymF

Comments about J & D Hite Artist Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece:

An excellent mouthpiece. Great tonal character, control and intonation. I have tried a lot of tenor mouthpieces. Cheap to very expensive. This one tops the lot. It plays clean and centered top to bottom and back again. It is almost unbelievable that a product actually lives up to its advertisement. A Note: I use Fibracell reeds.

Incredible, Clean and colorful

By Ron-XUrwY

Comments about J & D Hite Artist Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece:

Just got the Hite 128. Sounds as clean and colorful as a Morgan C2. Has the ease of play and the dynamic flexibility that makes for a great mpc. Tried this on an inexpensive sax and it projected clean and sweet. Can't wait to play test on a Martin or other respectable horn. I would recommend this mpc to anyone looking for ease of embouchure, expression and the ability to rise out of the section and sweetly sing out a solo. Very impressive sound and flexibility especially considering the price.

A finely-made, versatile mouthpiece

By Mike Ruhl

from Greenville, SC

Comments about J & D Hite Artist Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece:

This is a very versatile mouthpiece, with a great facing. The included ligature is very good, too. This mouthpiece supplanted my trusty old Florida Link STM as my main setup on my King Super 20 tenor.
