Fibracell

Fibracell reeds deliver vibrant tone with great longevity.

They have brilliant overtones for a full, resonant tone, a quick response for better articulation, and excellent pitch stability and intonation, even for clarinet. Best of all, they have the same woody tone as cane but with better projection. Fibracell reeds even have the same weight and stiffness as cane (cane floats and so does Fibracell!) but they last up to 4 times longer with no unplayable reeds and aren't affected by heat or humidity. With their high strength and long-lasting durability, they're less likely to give out on you in the middle of a performance, too.

What is Fibracell?

Fibracell is a sophisticated composite of aerospace materials designed to exactly duplicate the way nature constructs the cane that goes into the very best cane reeds. Very stiff but sound-absorbing Kevlar fibers are suspended in a lightweight rosin using extremely exacting production standards. Each reed is precisely machined and trimmed for a consistently perfect shape, so you get the same reed time and time again.

Comments about Fibracell Synthetic Tenor Saxophone Reed:

I would not have been able to get a sound out of my Buescher Aristocrat 200 with my setup if I had not started with a Fibracell 1.0 hardness. So as a beginner, it helped me develop to the point I could use harder reeds.

1.0 reeds are hard to find.

Comments about Fibracell Synthetic Tenor Saxophone Reed:

I have been playing the saxophones for about 50 years. I played as a studio musician and with many many goups. If they stopped making Fibracell reeds, I would stop playing. I can not believe anyone would play anything other than Fibracell.

Good reed but could use some improvement.

Comments about Fibracell Synthetic Tenor Saxophone Reed:

If your a doubler this reed is the perfect fit........if you play for long periods of time it may not be the best choice. I'm only getting about a month out of the Fibracell tenor reeds on a Guardala metal MP. The problem for me is the lamination on the bottom side of the reed will start to separate along the outside edges and causes a secondary vibration from the lamination vibrating against the reed surface. I actually had some distortion in a recording that I traced back to the lamination separation.
If Fibracell were able to manufacture the reed without the lamination on the bottom surface I think would be much better. You might want to try out the Legere Signature Series or Studio Cut reeds as an alternative, they are more expensive but the life is much longer too.

Comments about Fibracell Synthetic Tenor Saxophone Reed:

The Fibracell reeds are an amazing breakthrough. I first tried a synthetic plastic reed over sixty years ago and the Bari reed plays much the same: fairly dead and not responsive. The Fibracell is responsive to the full range of sound production and volumes. Put one on a metal mouthpiece and stand back. Their is no limit to volume. The life of the reed is at least a year without a drop in sound quality and response. Compared to a cane reed, they feel about a half step stiffer. A 2 1/2 Fibracell will respond like a number 3 cane.

        fibracell reeds

Comments about Fibracell Synthetic Tenor Saxophone Reed:

These reeds really put out a great sound and being able just to lick it and play it ( no soaking, etc) is an advantage. No chirping or squeaking. For rock and R&B, they have a forceful sound but can be played softly as well. They last longer than cane does. I've tried other synthetic reeds but fibracell really give me the feel and playability of cane in a synthetic porduct. I do recommend them to anybody.

Cure your Reed Grooming Disorder! :)

Comments about Fibracell Synthetic Tenor Saxophone Reed:

As an adult saxophone beginner I find these to be a gem! Practice is more important right now than the everyday ritual of grooming reeds, soaking warped reeds, filing/sanding them... not for me. I've been playing guitar/bass for 16/12 years and I have an ear for tone. Purists might disagree, but I think Fibracell is close enough to real reed. Reed-wise I've tried Rico and Vandoren. Also tried "Bari" composite reed, but fibracell is better - Bari is just clear acrylic - less complexity in tone, sounds "dumbed down".
