Good Clarity

By Rishi Talwar

Comments about MXL R144 Ribbon Microphone:

I used this mic for a vocal recording and it picked up up really well. Got reviews from a tenured recordist that the mic is good. A good investment for beginner studio setups or pro.

Micing guitar amps just got easy

By Jeff Little

from Dallas, Texas

Comments about MXL R144 Ribbon Microphone:

For years I've used mostly SM57s and ATM63s to mic guitar amps in my studio. Finding just the right position for the microphone can be a time-consuming and sometimes frustrating endeavor as I'm sure most of you know. Unitl now. This afternoon I took the time to play with the R144 and it makes micing guitars almost stupidly easy...angled straight on, just off-center and about 2" off the grill cloth and every guitar I auditioned through a Laney VC30 tube amp recorded exactly the way it sounded in the room. Adding a second one of these to my collection is now a certainty. For about $100 this microphone should be a no-brainer. With excellent side-rejection inherent to the figure-eight pattern, it ought to make a good live mic, too. Awesome!
