When it works, it works well, but most of the time it doesn't

By Jamal Nichols

from Milwaukee, Wi

Comments about TASCAM US144 Interface and 990/991 Mic Pack Bundle:

I bought this bundle after a bit of research, but so far am very unhappy with it. I have a pretty powerful new laptop (Win XP) but have all kinds of latency issues (crackling / stopping sound) and blue screens of death with the US-144. The interface also consistently takes up 20% of my CPU to run. I've found a few more unfavorable reviews that echo my negative experience. Appearantly the drivers for this piece of equipment are awful. The instruction manual is also littered with typos. When the thing works, it outputs some nice, clear sound for the price. Unfortunately, most of the time it doesn't work. Bottom line: stay away until they put out some new drivers.

Sounds Great For 2 Mics

By Kelly-.8-4V

from Lk. Arrowhead, Ca

Comments about TASCAM US144 Interface and 990/991 Mic Pack Bundle:

My husband is a drummer and wanted more mics, but it was not in our budget. We hung one mic over the drums. It sounds good enough to get us started. It actually sounds better than we expected and can lay down tracks. Works well with other music software, but it comes with its own. We are very happy with our purchase. Make sure you have enough power to run this program. You cannot run a wireless internet connection at the same time. The USB ports can't sustain the power usage.

Good Entry Level Set-up

By Keith-YzDZ8

from On the road

Comments about TASCAM US144 Interface and 990/991 Mic Pack Bundle:

I purchased this bundle as a means to record ideas and live shows on the road. The cables are of acceptable quality, and plenty long to boot. The microphones are excellent for doubling guitar tracks (one track with the 900, one track with the 991) and the 990 is great for vocals. For the US 144 on the other hand, it's a good beginners interface, though bare in mind that it takes a good computer to run it, and you will not get Zero Latency as advertised. Using ASIO drivers I've managed to get 6ms latency, which is basically inaudible to the human ear, so it's good in that respect, but it also takes 20% of my CPU (AMD Athlon 4000+ 2.6 GHz) to run the US 144. Basically, if you're looking for a good home recording solution, this is your ticket. If you're looking for an interface to record live with a laptop, try the Line 6 UX-2.
