Bought this guitar as a "road guitar" to take on pleasure trips and save my Martins Dreadnaughts. It is much too good for that. great set up striaght from the factory! Even used it on a recording project tht was in progress when it came and I couldn't believe how well it recorded. It is a fingerpickers delight. If hard strumming is your thing this won't cut it, but if you like to fingerpick it has great mid tones and trebles with a nice balance in the bass. Nice guitar.
I did the same thing you are doing, looking at reviews of guitars before i get one. Well, if you are looking at Taylors, I highly recommend this one. Compared to similar Martins or Gibsons, the tone of this guitar is so much better. Its output is so much more than I expected. Now, if all your songs are dark, this might not be the guitar for you. It has more of a brighter tone, but it can still do the depressing sound, believe me, I've done it. I couldnt make myself spend more on a Taylor since this one sounds as good as any of the more expensive ones. Buy it. You'll be happy you did.
Typical OM specs except thicker(dreadnought thickness), very nice neck, very thin satin type coating. Definitely not top notch wood on these guitars, streaking on ebony neck, Sapele sides and back are decent, sort of unusual color. One of the spruce tops had a couple of bearclaws. Nice tight grained tops. The salesman should have not tried to fix the action, should have left that for their guitar tech. For some reason, on both of these guitars,you could not fret a clear note on the treble E string. I was surprised they came out of the factory so poorly set up. But, really that is no big deal. That problem could easily be fixed by a good luthier. Bottom line, great tone. If I could find one affordable, I would get it. They play easily and sound great. You get what you pay for.
