Comments about Dean EABC 5-String Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Bass:
I purchased this as a return, 'sharp frets'. Perhaps it was a humidity thing, but they were no sharper than your average new bass frets.
The lack of an internal preamp limits the sound, but use of an outboard preamp fixes that. Considering installing an aftermarket internal preamp, it was inexpensive enough that some Frankensteining is appropriate.
I often end up stringing acoustic 5's w/ a high-C, but this B was pretty good, I'm leaving it be. Even the original strings were OK.
I have had EAB's that were Five times as expensive, yet no better.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Dean EAB 5 String
Comments about Dean EABC 5-String Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Bass:
Pretty decent instrument. Big body = good volume for an AB but it also means that it's hard to get comfortable holding it. I'm a bigger guy and I still haven't found a comfy position where my forearm isn't compressed and restricts my playing. The electronics are basically non existent. One sliding tone and one sliding volume button but they're passive so you'll need a preamp for electric play. Overall, good unplugged sound but there are better basses out there for the money.
