Worth Every Penny

Comments about Washburn WI14 Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar second-hand from someone who bought it new (beginner package), tried it, broke a string, and decided guitar wasn't for them. I own two other guitars; a Squier Strat (now modified) and a Washburn OE-40 hollowbody electric guitar (also modified). The Squier was my first guitar and I still play it and it is also a very good guitar for the money. This Washburn WI 14 is, in my opinion, a better starter guitar than the Squier because of the strung through hardtail. Beginners will not often use the fulcrum tremolo that comes on the Squier Strat and they can be difficult to tune and keep in tune, not to mention the difficulty with string changes. If you are learning string bends fulcrum's don't work well. In addition, you get the dual humbuckers on the WI 14 which are nice versus the three single coils on the Squier in my opinion. I prefer the neck on my Squier, but this is a personal preference (the Squier neck is more rounded, heavier, and thicker.......not everyone likes this). My Squier is definately heavier, so if weight is an issue you may want to look at the WI 14. Overall I enjoy playing the WI 14 more than my Squier Strat. The drawbacks with this guitar are weak stock pickups and undersensitive tone/vol controls, but realistically for a beginner it isn't an issue. The OEM strings are typical of a low end guitar, and since I needed to change them anyway I installed Boomer 10's and it sounds very good through my Crate 65 amp. People often overlook how much better a guitar will play and sound just with a good set of strings (and you can easily spend under $10 for a GOOD set). Yes, there are better guitars on the market, but from what I have seen you'd be hard pressed to find a better guitar AT THIS PRICE. Really basic design; bolt on neck, strung through hardtail, twin humbuckers..........a no-frills guitar that will be easy to own, easy to tune, easy to maintain, and should hold up for all but the professional who needs the best. Perfect starter guitar at a very attractive price, I give it 5 stars not because it's the best I've ever played, but because it's perfect for who it was intended to target.

Worthy investment

Comments about Washburn WI14 Electric Guitar:

I've been playing for about 42 years, mostly acoustic and electric bass. I've been in a variety of bands including U.S. Navy Jazz and church bands. As instruments go, this Washburn is a very good quality one. Of my three electrics, this is my "go to" guitar. It holds a tuning very well and produces an excellent tone. It'll sustain a note much better than a lot of guitars. Just yesterday I went to a popular guitar center to try out some other "entry level" guitars, fully intending to buy an Epiphone Dot Studio (after reading rave reviews on it). When I tried out the Epi, I immediately knew there was no comparison, the Washburn WI14 was the superior guitar (for me). By superior, I mean superior in playability, ease on the fingers, and comfort in general. These are very important factors to me as an "older" player. For the money, your HARD earned money, you won't be disappointed with a Washburn.
