The SOLO/610 by Universal Audio is designed to deliver the classic sound of the Putnam 610 console. The all-tube SOLO/610 provides the silky vintage warmth of the original UA 610 console used by artists ranging from Sinatra to Van Halen. Its all-tube circuit was carefully created to maintain the character of its vintage predecessor with the audiophile components and solid build you'd expect from a UA product. It has mic and DI inputs; Thru output; continuous gain and level controls; a gain-structuring Shape switch; 48V phantom power; lo cut filter; phase reverse; ground lift; and versatile mic/line level output switch. I can't say that I've used this pre-amp extensively yet, and I haven't had other stand-alone preamps in my studio to compare it with, but . . . compared to the pre-amps in my Mackie d8b (XDR pre's), it has a little more detail, definitely more harmonics. It does seem to give a track more "space" . . . Want some grind and character? Just turn up the gain, and you've got it! Place a condenser in front of a guitar cab, and you can get amp-like distortion from the hot mic signal, even! However, it does not have a ton of headroom when driving my AKG C414 on vocals. It's enough to get enough signal, though, with the gain turned way down to keep the signal clean. Phase reverse switch and instrument DI are both a plus. I might add a cleaner pre-amp later, but this one definitely provides a different sonic character to give your tracks more sizzle.

great for bass and guitar D.I. and keys. one of the best bass tones on its own and the thru jack can be used for blending direct with an amp. makes all my mics sound great and i have a lot of mics. very easy to set level with led meter.
