I purchased this mic to use as a talkback mic in my VO studio. The main mic is in an iso-booth so a talkback mic is needed when I'm the producer on a session and need to talk to talent in the booth or on the other end of an ISDN or Source Connect hookup.
The SGM-12 is cheap...and sounds it. Lifeless and boxy in the cardioid position, hissy and boxy sounding when switched to super-cardioid. I would never record anything with it. The good news? It's fine for my purposes. Hey, for this price I had to try it.

in my original review i said this mic was good for the money. it did its job for one use, the next time we went to use it it didn't work. tried new batteries, different cables, could not get sound out of it. contacted music 123 and they sent a new one, this one showed up and straight out of the box it didn't work. again tried batteries, cables, and no sound. my guess is its poor made in china quality control, you would do well to avoid this mic. two thumbs up for music 123 customer service though, they were very helpful.

I purchased the SGM-12 just to experiment iin th field. So far, this has been an impressive ENG microphone where capturing Nat sounds are important. Outstanding in "Super Cardioid" pattern. Perhaps a bit light in construction for full time ENG use, it has lived up to its potential and I'm looking to add a couple of more of these units to our "arsenal". Overall, well worth the investment.....

got this mic and used it as an overhead for micing a drum set. it did a good job picking up the snare and cymbals. if you are on a budget or need a spare mic to carry around this is a good deal.

We bought 4 of these mics to use with our children's music ministry at the church. With a limited budget, we expected a limited performance. However, these inexpensive mics have been pretty impressive! They do exactly what we want, and we aren't concerned if they get damaged by the kids. A great low cost option!
