Raises any low-level input signal to the audio input level of Apple personal computers.

The MXL iBooster raises any low level input signal, such as those of microphones and electric guitars, to the audio input level of Apple's personal computers. This compact, affordable interface is an essential tool for Apple home recording and multimedia enthusiasts. The electric guitar and cardioid condenser microphones (the type used in professional recording environments) output a relatively low-level signal. They need to be amplified to a higher level to be used effectively with both the iMac and the larger Power Mac tower systems. The MXL iBooster is an inexpensive alternative to using expensive mic-preamps and guitar input devices.

MXL iBooster Mac audio amplifier

Comments about MXL iBooster Guitar and Microphone Interface:

The iBooster is an amplifier designed for audio input for a mac computer. It does great in relation to the quality of the standard audio input. I don't know if the iBooster has extreme good quality because you connect it via the standard audio input which limits the sound quality. When connecting a microphone with low voltage that most professional artists use, the range of sound volume is great. You can start out quietly and at the end sing loud and the amplifier puts out the right audio signal. Also the sound quality is good. I have also tested the amplifier within Windows. Because of different architecture the range of volume is limited. When singing quietly you hear the sound normally. If you sing loud than the problem can arise that the sound gets distorted. It is good enough for a karaoke party when you don't have high standards. When you want recording studio quality audio you better buy a Apogee Duet. It has four connections of which you can use two simultaneously. There is also a headphone connection so all the sound you hear is already better than the build in audio output. It is more expensive than the iBooster, but if you compare it with prices of studio quality sound it is reasonable. The iBooster is designed as a good solution to amplify low voltage microphone so the standard audio input can handle it in the right way. If you want to bypass the internal sound card of a Mac than you should better buy a Duet. I give it five stars because I have not seen a better solution which amplify low voltage sound realtime in such a good way. I prefer it over the USB solutions because the data is not being send as packages which makes realtime feedback better. I only noticed a minimal delay when using Garageband. The only downside is that it uses an adapter, but if you could connect it via FireWire a problem could arise when connecting multiple FireWire devices.

Comments about MXL iBooster Guitar and Microphone Interface:

I bought this because my interface is mounted on my mobile rig, so it can be a pain in the butt to have to unload and bring it in when i need to record on the fly. This works awesome so far with my macbook pro. I have only had it a couple of weeks but so far so good. Only time will tell of durability. I use it often and I have had no problems knock wood. Would buy another if I needed to replace this one.
