Good quality performance for the money
Comments about MXL 960 Tube Condenser Microphone:
This tube mic offers a good quality sound for project studios in an affordable price range. Hard to find any other tube mic in this price range that would produce a vintage sound as well as this mic does. I purchased this for my home project studio for pre-production but the quality is usable for finished product I believe. I do use a high quality Langevin mic pre/EQ/compressor and quality digital convertors with Aardvark external clocking. I like the fact that by replacing the Chinese tube with a high quality Mullard tube the mic becomes competitive with much higher priced tube mics. Some people have replaced capacitors with higher quality ones as well as even replacing the diaphragm. This can lead to a mic that some people say rivals mics in the $1000 category. Remember to always keep a pop filter in front of the mic to keep all moisture away from the diaphragm!
