I purchased the Relay G50 in Dec 2010. I have been using it consistently about a month and a half now. I use it twice a week (practice and Sunday) playing electric guitar in our contemporary worship service at church. It is absolutely fantastic!
The G50 couldn't be easier to use. It is pretty much plug and play. Pull out the RXS12 Receiver, attach the antennas, and select a channel and cable length. Plug the provided power supply into the wall, then into the Receiver. Grab the TBP12 Transmitter, put in the batteries, turn it on, hold Select for 2 seconds, and then press the Value button until you select the channel you selected on the Receiver. Plug the included Transmitter cable into the Transmitter, and then plug it into your guitar. Plug a cable between your amp/pedal board and the Receiver, turn your amp on and you are ready to go. It is that easy!
The sound quality is top-notch. I don't notice any difference in my tone. It sounds just like having a cable. You will notice that if you set the Cable Tone knob to "0" and then increase it as you are playing, the tone will get darker as you increase, just like using a longer cable would do. I set mine at around 20 feet, which is the length of cable I usually use, and like I said it sounds just like I was cabled up.
This wireless system works in the 2.4 GHz range, just like Wi-Fi. So you for sure don't get interference from radio stations, Air Traffic Control (no Spinal Tap moments), etc. You shouldn't get interference from wireless routers or anything like that either, since the G50 is not listening for those signals either. I have run all over our social hall where we have our contemporary service and it is rock solid. We have Wi-Fi in our church and people have cell phones on as well, and I haven't had an issue. I have also tried the system in my house and had no interference from my wireless router. I have gone into different rooms, where I couldnt even see the Receiver and still had a rock solid signal. I have yet to have any interference.
This system is built tough. The Transmitter and Receiver are both housed in metal, with rubber coverings. I was shocked when I pulled the Transmitter out and it was metal. A lot of lavalier mic transmitters are plastic and that was what I expected. What a nice surprise. I don't abuse it, but I am guessing both pieces could take some rough handling and come out OK.
Every once in a while the sound will kind of cut out for a half second. If this happens, don't worry, there is a simple fix. You just need to move the antennas to a different position. Antennas transmit in a certain pattern. If you are positioned in or move through the cone of silence, you may drop out. If you notice that this occurs, just move the antenna and it will solve the issue.
Line 6 hit a home run with this wireless system. It is simple to use and sounds fantastic. It is worth every penny. I have been dreaming about getting a wireless system for years, but was always afraid because of the interference issue. Line 6 has apparently solved this issue.
If you are looking for a wireless system, I strongly recommend the Relay G50. In fact our bass player is so impressed with it, that he has talked his wife into buying him a G50 for his birthday. She called me to get the model and price so she could order him one.

After researching both the G30 and G50 Line 6 Relay wireless units, I recently purchased the G50 and am very pleased with the results. The keys to my purchase decision were ease of use, durability, battery life, and, of course, no tone degradation. Well, the G50 hit the top of my list on all of those points. I was concerned reading other reviews about the construction (plastic) of the G30, and the battery compartment door (not the best design). Since my wireless unit will be on my pedal board, it helps if its built like a tank, and the G50 is just that. My experience with the G50 thus far has been worry-free, and I've gigged with it now for about four hours (two gigs) on the same set of batteries. Very easy to setup and worked like a charm right out of the box. Thus far, I am the only guitar player in my band that is wireless, so I have no interference issues. The tone is very clean, and there is no degradation. Only if you were in a sound booth A-B'ing it to a cable would you be able to tell any difference. In a live situation, no one will know, including you.
Of course, the best feature of having a wireless system is to be able to go out into the hall during sound check and check your levels. This may seem like a no-brainer, but I don't want to think about how I never did that until now, just assumed I wasn't blowing away the rest of the band.
Bottom line: worth the extra $ to upgrade from the G30. Highly recommended.
