Useful little mice
Comments about CAD CM217 Condenser Mic - Buy One, Get One FREE!!!:
These little condenser mics are terrific when you use them for the purposes intended- hi hats, drum overheads, acoustic guitars etc. I have used them for the choir and now for hi hats and OHs and they sound great. At this price you can afford to buy them just to have them handy.
Dont expect great results when used as a hand held vocal mic, on snare, kick drum or for guitar amps, toms etc....think of them as a poor man's AKG 451 and you wont go wrong.
Usually with cheaper mics you expect them to be noisy when held in the hand, and to be breakable when dropped, so just take care of them and they will serve you well.

These babies are keepers.
Comments about CAD CM217 Condenser Mic - Buy One, Get One FREE!!!:
The CAD FET condenser microphone is a compact pencil design with a cardioid pick up pattern, integral high pass filter and 10 dB pad. They come packaged in a generic cardboard box and included is a rubber mic clip, a probe for making the filter and attenuation settings and some instructions and graphs that I never looked at.
I immediately plugged them in and listened for any detectable noise. There was none of any concern-able amount to put me off from using them. In fact, they were very quiet when plugged directly into my digital mixer.
I positioned a pair on a stereo bar in X-Y which is tricky due to their stubby physique. They just nearly make it using by pushing the Neutrik XLR partially into their spring rubber clip. But once in position they make a cute couple, even if they are diminutive.
With the -10dB off and the High Pass off I made some room recordings that sounded big and open with lots of detail and clarity. So, I plugged them into a Roland MMP-2 modeling pre-amp and they became even more alive, capturing every detail and nuance I threw at them. They were very accurate and revealing in every regard with a tight low end, defined mid bass and creamy smooth mid range. Even the top end was tame and airy sounding. There was never any evidence of a bright metallic or edgy sibilant sound at anytime under any circumstances. If anything quite the opposite. No pads or pop filters are needed.
I have some experience using expensive Euro KM-series, MKH and C-Series microphones. You know the ones that come in fancy Walnut jewel boxes with suspension shock mounts that cost more than a pair of these. And, I going to say that I'm thrilled with these. Ill be using them in a pseudo Decca-Tree setup for home recording and theyll do just fine for my recording needs.
I can imagine theyll work for recording choral groups as overheads for drums and as piano mics as well as for acoustic and electric guitars and if you happen to lose or damage them who cares. I cant wait to check them out with a full band.
Like I said, these babies are keepers. and a huge bang for the buck!

Good Quality For The Price
Comments about CAD CM217 Condenser Mic - Buy One, Get One FREE!!!:
I had purchased these mics a little while back and was not dissapointed by them. They aren't going to give you the quality of a larger pencil condenser, but for the price you can't go wrong. Using these for acoustic guitar and cymbals is a good option. Anything else you might need something else. The advantage to these mics is that you get 2 of them so it leads to many different recording options. Good entry level recording mic.
