The Blue Dragonfly Microphone employs an innovative design to offer you fine tuning and precise placement. The Dragonfly mic will please the most discerning recordist. The Dragonfly is a unique pressure-gradient cardioid condenser microphone, employing Blue's hand-built single-membrane large-diaphragm capsule coated with a 6-micron mylar film of pure gold and aluminum. Enclosed within a rotating spherical grille, the capsule can be positioned and adjusted in the smallest spaces. Complete with an integrated elastic shockmount, the microphone's electronics are based on a Class-A discrete circuit, with a transformerless output. The Dragonfly mic's sonic character gives flight to everything from vocals to percussion, electric guitar and bass, as well as more difficult sources such as saxophones and stringed instruments.

it's a great mic for everything. i have used it on voice, piano upright bass, bass cab, drum overs, snares, acgtrs, elgtrs, and it sounds great on everything. but i favor it on acoustic gtrs and gtr amps, it sounds like youre right there in front of the amp. try it, close your eyes and listen to the recorded sound and you can imagine the instrument or amp in front of you. very true sounding. if its too clean? dirty it up afterwards. i use it with a solo 610 preamp and add tube drive too it for a lil more dirt when necessary.

When I first got it a year ago, I put it up over my drum kit that had a Rode NTK and I wanted to know the difference. The Blue was so much more accurate and clean that it gave the set a shimmering three D sound and to be honest I did not expect that from one mic. Also I did not have to EQ to get that air at 16khz that I usually have to do. It did wonders to my 15" 70's new beat hi hats. Next I tried it on acoustic guitar ( Guild 1978 D40 FCE, very nice piece of kit to those who don't know) through a Aphex 207D preamp and was enveloped in clear glossy sound that wasn't too hyped and really just plain sounded like a good acoustic should. I was impressed royally and thats hard for me, I'm a crabby when it comes to sound . Next was my vocals, baritone and I'm clear, not growly at all, It was excellent and what a breeze to position with the rotating head, My set up was overhead and pointed down to reduce nasal aptitude roughly 6" away from my mouth (directed at the mouth it needs a pop filter but you knew that right). This is a clean mic and the rise in EQ pleases my ear and many, many others, yes even the ladies. Between this and the NTK I haven't found anyone that I can't please, And the ability to position it quickly is a bigger plus that many have over looked, why aren't other mic companies doing this, its really convenient. I just want to note that what they (Blue) has done is given a mic that sounds great in many different genres, its truly an overall mic like none out there, and I've been at this for many years (OK since you asked politely since 64 when I stoled my older brothers snare drum and pounded it till my folks got me proper lessons). So thank you for your time and know that I would never write about something unless I'm very impressed, I've bought so much hyped garbage in my time I could have bought a Jaguar XJ12, and I hope this helps those that don't see the coolness of this wonderful instrument. By the way my room is just your average home studio with weird reflections and not perfectly balanced EQ, but what fun is recording with out the danger of a Chihuahua making it into the final mix.
