Improving upon ART's popular Tube MP.

The original Tube MP made pro-caliber tube preamping available to ordinary musicians and home studios. The MP Studio goes a step further by adding a VU meter for better level control and ART's OPL (Output Protection Limiter), which controls and maintains the output peak signal to protect hard-disk recording systems and soundcards. The VU meter reflects the impact of the OPL circuitry when it is activated, which allows more effective fine tuning of the audio signal. It is a valuable tool for recording in project and home studios and can also function as a DI box with impedance matching and preamplification for line-level sources. Includes a 3-year warranty.

Amazing functionality and quality for the price. The sound quality, in my opinion, is excellent. I tried a terribly crappy vocal mic with it, and the MP Studio made it sound decent. My SM57 sounds amazing going through it. I highly recommend it for any audio situation as I'm sure you'll find a good use for it.

Thats about it, a real cheap way to get some more volume for your mic/vocalist. Its a little noisy. I think I am going to experiment with a better quality tube and see if that doesn't help a bit. Really though for the price you can't beat it for what it does.

save your money for a better unit

About Me Experienced

Ask me a question

Comments about ART Tube MP Studio Mic Preamp:

You get what you pay for here.
The unit does amplify the signal well enough to boost an electric guitar's pickups. But it always adds noise and the "limiter" function really doesn't do anything. The signal coming out of this is rather "peaky" with harsh spikes that are hard to tame. It's definitely not for vocals or anything where you want accuracy or low noise operation.

Versatile little box

By

Comments about ART Tube MP Studio Mic Preamp:

People seem to either love or hate these things, and personally I love them.
I haven't experienced any noticeable noise with the tube amp, as long as you set it up properly and don't boost the output signal with the input gain low (unless you are looking to achieve something particular by doing so.)
I've been using this for a few different things, primarily running mics through it because it just has a more organic sound than the built in preamps on my interface. I've also got usable tones out of it as a bass DI, although my tech21 box is more useful for this overall, there are some particular warm clunky tones that you can get out of overdriving this thing which come in handy every now and then. The only real negative I have with this is the lack of a power switch, plugging/unplugging it can be a pain.

Great for a direct input of a mic to a line level

By

from Newbury, VT

Comments about ART Tube MP Studio Mic Preamp:

used twice now to add another mic input to my DJ setup through an rca line level input. I did clip a few time but that was probably my in experience. The sound was clean with little to no noise. The unit is easily adjustable. Be advised don't lose the power supply. Its 9VAC, not DC like most every other wall wart.

Comments about ART Tube MP Studio Mic Preamp:

I can now record awesome mics without having to go through my podXT and mess with that bag of worms. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a boot for their mics.

for 29 bucks, its 1000 sound

Comments about ART Tube MP Studio Mic Preamp:

I have many Pre-amps, and i decide to buy 3 of those guys...Amazing sound and excellent construction for the price. I doubt about hand select 12ax7 for this money but by the way still a BEST BUY. The opl limiter is useful to, but sometimes not so soft like ive wander it. Again, the people of ART giving us good stuff, for an excellent price

Took a bit of monkeying but...

Comments about ART Tube MP Studio Mic Preamp:

I figured out how to use it for what I needed it for (and that was to warm and give a bit of power to my dry bass lines I was lining direct into my TASCAM US-144 interface). BUT, I found I could use all that tubey goodness to bring that same warmth to my Guitar and vocals! How awesome is that?

Hear your guitar the way it was meant to sound!

By

from New York

Comments about ART Tube MP Studio Mic Preamp:

I've had this several months now, so I finally feel comfortable writing a review about it. It's actually pretty good. I used to pass my guitar through an old tube loudspeaker before I got this, but this item has a much better sound. When you add cables and devices such as this, you're going to get some additional line noise (like a mild hissing). However, I have found that if you turn up the input knob and try to keep the output knob low, you minimize this hissing. Actually, when you set it up like this, there's almost no additional hiss, which is great! Don't be fooled by it's small size, this thing can output quite a bit of power, especially when you engage the 20db gain. By the way, don't expect the needle on the VU meter to really move on a lower setting. The way I have it set up, I'm not using all of its potential. But anyway, it's great for distortion, but most importantly, you can get a warm sound that's clean. Transistors can imitate but never replace valves. At this price, you won't have any regrets. I'm happy with it! By the way, I am using this with a Fender American Strat and a Marshall MG-30DFX amp. Good luck!

Comments about ART Tube MP Studio Mic Preamp:

My first experience with this type of equipment. It does just what I need it to do. It provides a good, clean boost to my mic in my in-ear monitors. Excellent value. Great sound. I'll try using it next time I record too.

ART Tube MP Studio Mic PreAmp Accustic application

By

from cincinnati, Ohio

Comments about ART Tube MP Studio Mic Preamp:

This is the second MP PreAmp that I have pirchased. The first ended the feedback problems that follow harmonica players around as they look for more volumne. Plenty of volumne, no feedback, problem solved. The second was for an accustic mandolin with an external pickup. Internal hollow body feedback was a problem as the nobs are twisted at the amp. The ART MP controled the gain side of pickup while allowing for plenty of amp volumne. Problem solved. This is a great piece of equiptment for live performance.

Best Kept Valve Secret

By

from Wisner, NE

Comments about ART Tube MP Studio Mic Preamp:

January 2008, I ordered two of these pre-amps, and they are good. My interest is mainly guitar, so I use these to "tube" up my sound for greater warmth and depth. I have discovered the ART MP is great for livening up a microphone that may be too "damp" with different impedance levels. The MP brightens up that muddy, distant sound. If you ever get into that, "Geez, my mic doesn't work with this lousy mixer" situation, just slap in your ART MP. I bet you solve the problem.
