Phenomenal performance at a petite price.

The ART TPS II 2-Channel Variable Impedance Tube Preamp is coupled with ART's proprietary V3 (Variable Valve Voicing) functionality to deliver tremendous versatility. It features variable input impedance which allows users to dial in and match any microphone type from large condensers to ribbon mics.

Like its predecessor, the DPS, the newly improved V3 feature provides optimized reference points to begin the recording process for guitars, bass guitars, synths, acoustic instruments, percussion, vocals, and more. Unique to its class, the TPS II provides level monitoring with 2 analog meters as well as 2 newly added input monitoring LED meters. High-Z instruments or balanced microphone signals are input through front and rear panel jacks.

This newly enhanced TPS II can accept +20dB peaks while maintaining over 120dB dynamic range, quiet performance, and incredibly low distortion.

ART's legendary tube stage delivers classic warm sound and adds additional tube voicing specifically tailored to vocal, guitar, bass, and acoustic instruments, making it an incredible DI box. OPL (Output Protection Limiting) controls overshoots and normalizes levels before clipping occurs.

The TPS II was conceived, designed, and manufactured to the highest standards to provide years of quiet, reliable performance. Audition one and you too will know why the TPS II is among the most cost-effective professional mic preamp system you'll find on the market today.

Comments about ART TPS II 2-Channel Variable Impedance Tube Preamp:

I like the variable tone voicing feature a lot. I also really like the adjustable impedance matching, it's surprising the difference it makes when you can dial in the mic.

I have a Samson C03 condenser mic and this preamp makes it sound like a high-end unit. I run all my instruments through this preamp now whether they need it or not!

    Great 2 channel Pre

Comments about ART TPS II 2-Channel Variable Impedance Tube Preamp:

For the money, you can't beat these. They warm up the mic beautuifully. and you can match the impedance to the mic. The selection of uses is sort of an EQ but it does provide some various settings. Overall if you want tube pres on everything you can't beat these. I feed both my vocal and amp mics through for a great acoustic sound.

    killer "analog" sound

Comments about ART TPS II 2-Channel Variable Impedance Tube Preamp:

First and foremost, with all the ART preamps and other tube gear, you MUST use a Mullard 12AX7 to get that warm fat bottom-end. The Mullard truely does make a difference, I promise. (You can get the reissues on eBay for $15.) I bought this for my Waldorf MicroQ "virtual analog" synthesizer. It didn't quite have that warm thick analog sound, but this preamp with the Mullard (and the Voice knob set to "Valve") made it fat and thick, especially in the lower octaves. I bought a second one to thicken out, warm up, and smooth the rear speakers in my home-theater system I highly recommend this!

    Great inexpensive preamp

Comments about ART TPS II 2-Channel Variable Impedance Tube Preamp:

This is a very good microphone preamplifier. Plenty of gain and low noise allows it to perform well with ribbon mikes. I agree the warmth is not up to snuff and I searched my tube stock and found one from the 60s that tested good with both sections closely matched. The variable Input impedance control does well, though I noticed the output control scratchy. The controls feel cheap and should be set and forgotten. Thus the 4 stars. I do prefer it to the Behringer T1953.

    Great, great, great!

Comments about ART TPS II 2-Channel Variable Impedance Tube Preamp:

I'm a trained audio engineer, and I have my own home setup, plus I gig on a regular basis. I use the TPSII for both recording and live applications, and I get wonderful feedback all the time. My live sound engineer commented on how good I sound now that I started using this unit, and how he doesn't have to EQ me at gigs now because the sound is just so full. I've recorded vocals, acoustic and electric guitars, keys and horns, and all tracks ended up very high in quality. For the money, you won't beat this value. I'm seriously considering getting another very soon, and am also considering purchasing ART's compressor as well. If you're on a budget, you won't go wrong with the TPSII. Easy to use, awesome sounds, and very well built.
