Most home recordings involve from one to four people, any or all of whom are going to need headphone monitoring. The monitor amp would be connected to the tape deck's headphone output or a mixer output so that the performers can hear themselves and each other. Of course the same application can apply to band rehearsals and even home entertainment. HeadAMP provides amplification and individual volume control for up to 4 headsets. It can be driven by either line-level or headphone amplifier signals (mono or stereo).

This amp is built like a tank, as is most of the ART stuff. The solid metal chassis is compact so it can fit just about anywhere within your setup. You get 4 channels, each with a 1/4" and 1/8" out. The 20 dB of gain per channel has been more than sufficient so far, even when I've been monitoring while playing rock drums. As an engineer, I use this unit to monitor what the instrumentalists and vocalists are hearing without having to have my main monitors turned up. The unit is quiet, thanks in part to the external power supply. I've been using this unit at least weekly for about a year now with no problems. My only complaint is the price. It is more spendy than similar products. In fact, for less money, you can get headphone amps with more features, such as talkback and routing options. It would be nice to have the talkback feature, especially for this price. If you don't need those features, this is a solid unit. I looked at other brands with more features, but people complained about the quality of those other units. If ART could integrate a couple more featurs into this unit, they would have a 5-star product, no doubt.
