I am not an expert on compressors, limiters, etc.... But when i saw the price and the brand (ALESIS) that was all i needed to know. I hook it up to my guitar amp. and its ok so far..

I have owned this compressor for only 3 weeks, but I have to say that it is very well designed. It has a nice warm, deep sound and there isn't much noise associated with the actual compressor itself. The noise gate is especially useful for guitars and bass that use multiple effect pedals. Using this in recording guitar and bass tracks really helps clean up the recording and brings out the best in guitar sustain. The side chain is also a great feature and a must when wanting to focus on certain frequencies. It works well with other equipment, like EQ's. I guess the only "negative" thing that I would say is that the ratio settings jump from 2:1 to 4:1. It would be nice to have a 3:1 label so you know exactly where the ratio is set. Overall, this is a great compressor for the price and would be a great addition to any home studio.

This unit is a great value. Rackmount for the price of a pedal effect. Does an excellent job limiting or compressing and though the gate can be a little finicky it is simple to set up and use.

This is a classic, simple compressor/limiter/gate, with a nice "old school" warm sound. The manual is thin but adequate, because the 3630 doesn't get much more complicated than sidechain (for keying and ducking, both very cool features). I primarily use mine in an effects chain with my guitar amp, mostly for the noise gate to get sharp, brittle cutoffs when I want staccato; but I also often use the compressor/limiter functions on one or two tracks from my multitrack during mixdown (I use a multi-band for the overall mastering). The stereo link/dual mono feature works just fine. No complaints at all, actually, worth the money.

I've had a Behringer MDX-2600 and that was the best they had to offer. But it didn't do the job. Sound was poor and thin when using that device. So I had to bring the power with other components from behringer. Always problems with the dB. Thin Sounds, and you always heard the compressor work in the sound. Now I have the Alesis 3630. What a machine!!! Sound fat and sharp. Does the trick easily. Sound as it use to sound.

I use this compressor limiter when I play my Fender Tele. The Compressor Limiter gives my Tele a Whole New Sound that I love. I also use the Compressor limiter when recording vocals and it does a good job. For the money, this compressor limiter is hard to beat.
