Excellent Sound, Button Loud

Comments about TASCAM DR-1 Portable Digital Recorder:

This recorder does an excellent job. The sound quality is outstanding. However, there is no place to screw in a tripod and the biggest draw back is turning it on. When you press the button from monitor to record it makes considerable noise that is on your recording.

Comments about TASCAM DR-1 Portable Digital Recorder:

This recorder rocks! It is better than I thought. The sound quality is just astonishing. I did some field recording on a shore couple days ago and the result was just amazing. The size is perfect. It fits in your pocket. Easy file transferring to computer. No drivers needed. SD card storage makes it versatile and super portable. No need to spend $400 on a more expensive similar product. This does all you need.

Comments about TASCAM DR-1 Portable Digital Recorder:

I am writing this review because I am a drummer who searched the net and found little information about the DR1 in relation to how it would work for drummers. Hopefully, some day the industry will realist drummers are interested in recording too. I finally brought the unit anyway, and I am very happy. I have used the DR1 along with trakax free video editing software and a cheap Cannon camera to put videos on Youtube. The overdubing feature has given me the ability to record either along with the drummers on a track or lay down my drums over a drumless play along track. I have also record rehersal and gigs to evaluate my playng for improvement. The sound quality is adequate. For this price range, it is hard to complain. Things I believe would make it better. I really wish I could use Audacity to edit the drums on a seperate track, since when you overdub, it shows up as one track and cannot be separated for editing. I also would like a remote because the unit must be within arms reach to able start playing my instrument at the begin of song. This limits where I place the unit for best sound. There is no scew hole for putting is on tripod stand. The battey life is good. The controls are easy to use.

Great deal for the price

Comments about TASCAM DR-1 Portable Digital Recorder:

I bought this to replace an M-Audio Microtracks (I wanted something with a built-in mic) and I am not disappointed. Fairly easy to use (you will want to print out the manual though) and SD cards are so cheap these days there is no excuse not to have a few. One slight complaint is they force you to buy the external power supply. Not a huge issue, but just kind of annoying. The sound quality is great which the whole reason to buy one.
