Comments about Thomastik Dominant 4/4 Size Cello Strings:
A slightly higher tension than most synthetic (nylon variant) -core strings, they are durable, and less susceptible to changes in humidity and temperature than steel or gut core. Dominants also have a "half-round" winding on the D, G and C, which allow smooth movement up and down the neck, as well as reduce the corresponding string "squeak". I recommend either medium (mittel) or heavy (stark) gauge, as these are slightly more forceful in tone than the light gauge. These strings are easier on the fingers than metal-core, an asset that is much appreciated during extended upper-register work. I have used Dominants for decades, and am of the opinion that unless you play primarily as a soloist with orchestra, they are ideal for most applications on many instruments.
