Quantum bass drums represent a significant advancement in the evolution of the marching instrument. A lightweight contemporary tube lug ensures the best possible alignment of tension rods and keeps tuning stress off of the shell. Minimal hardware to shell contact allows the drum to resonate to its fullest potential. Progressive air-hole venting creates a more consistent sound and feel throughout the bass ensemble. Chambered aluminum bass drum hoops (precision crafted in the KHS bicycle factory) eliminate the need for additional rim protection, and provide superior overall strength while maintaining classic styling and sufficient tuning flexibility.

Decent set for highschool marching

Comments about Mapex Quantum Bass Drum 16" x 14":

We bought an entire set of these - and they work alright as new bass drums compared to older (and ultimately heavier) marching bass drums. Where do I begin? The stock Mapex harnesses have hooks that hinge into the loops on the bass drums, though the hooks seem like they are too short and the bass drums come off almost too easily - we have yet to drop one when performing, though we've come pretty close a few times. Also, the factory heads are garbage, and I regret not stocking up on new heads (thought I would get at least a year out of the lower heads - not the case). Ultimately we got the set of drums for a great deal, so I can't complain too much, though we took a dip in quality, which I do regret. I'm not saying don't buy them - just be prepared.
