Pour on the vintage tone!

The Breed, as a neck pickup, has more than enough power to balance with high-output bridge pickups: it will work with the Tone Zone, Super Distortion and Evolution as well as The Breed bridge model.

Works Best for Crunch and Leads

By

from Undisclosed

Comments about DiMarzio DP165 The Breed Neck Pickup:

This pickup gives a warm, creamy, smooth, rounded tone. For distorted leads it gives a very nice and comfortable "woman" tone with minimal pick noise, thus it's good for legatos and arpeggios. On crunch it works very well too, warm and creamy as mentioned. Its mids are slightly emphasized in the lower-mid, rather than upper-mid range, hence it doesn't have that high / sharp nasality like some pickups do. However, on cleans I found the Breed Bridge to be too bassy, inarticulate, and rounded for my needs. It would work very well for smooth bluesy licks and anything requiring a throaty sound, but I was looking for a more acoustic-guitar type clean sound, bell-like and brassy and clear and sharp. I like the SH2N but wished it had more bass, thus I tried the Breed Neck, only to find it was lacking the top end and articulation on cleans. So overall I recommend this pup for distorted leads, crunch, throaty neck distortion, and smooth blues, but not for clear bright cleans -- unless you have a bright trebly guitar that needs to have some bass added and highs tamed, then I think the Breed would be ideal. My guitar was basswood but has a thick and heavy body, thus it has decent lower end and high mids but lacks balls and treble. The Breed Bridge works great in it though, just not a fan of the Breed Neck.

very FAT

By

Comments about DiMarzio DP165 The Breed Neck Pickup:

This pickup really sounds FAT, there is no other word to describe the sound. Distorted, it sounds like a howling truckmotor and it has a very glassy and sweet clean tone... a bit bassy, but nothing eqing can't handle. The output isn't very high, so for a clean sound you have to drop the volume on your guitar ( depends on your amp as well)
