Vox

A contoured body, comfortable set neck, flawless intonation, and innovative electronics.

The legacy of Vox-branded electric guitars goes all the way back to the early sixties. This model continues the Vox tradition of exceptionally well-playing and innovative guitars.

The Vox SDC-33 Double-Cutaway Solidbody Electric Guitar is cosmetically similar to the 55 solid-body guitars, and employs many of the same distinguished components. The 33 instruments represent a dramatic breakthrough in price for a guitar of this quality.

Carved Construction
The signature VOX 3-D contoured body of the SDC-33 ensures impeccable comfort and fatigue-free playing, offering a natural fit either seated or standing. Elegantly carved top surfaces result in a distinguished look and a comfortable playing position. Easy access to the upper frets is provided by the deeply cut inverse heel joint. Position dot markers are placed both on the fingerboard and on the side of the neck for fast reference.

Quality Components
The SDC-33 guitar uses the same MaxConnect aluminum bridge as the Virage, offering extended saddle travel for flawless intonation with any-gauge string. Strings slide in from under the back edge of the bridge to make changing strings a snap. The full contact shape and light weight combine to deliver thick, rich tone with clear, singing harmonics. VOX Super Smooth tuners offer the SDC-33 enhanced tuning stability, so you can play with confidence. The mahogany necks are topped with rosewood fingerboards.

Uncompromised Tone
33 guitars offer a deep range of tonal choices. New CoAxe pickups feature two pickup elements; each delivers a unique and sophisticated tone, yet each one remains whisper-quiet. The passive analog tone circuitry offers both a Master Volume and a Master Tone control to refine your individual sound. Logically laid out and easy to use, the controls allow fast changes during performance.

Neither a single-coil nor humbucker in the traditional sense, the CoAxe design incorporates a central row of pole-pieces encased in a high-impedance coil that's flanked by two blades. The entire construction is then surrounded by a low-impedance winding, which cancels the hum.

Chief designer Eric Kirkland says: "The basic idea is that the coils are coaxial: they're on the same plane, not stacked. The advantage is that the center sensing coil can work like a true single-coil and the outer, noise-cancelling coil is outside the magnetic field, between the central poles and the blades."

Comments about Vox SDC-33 Double-Cutaway Solidbody Electric Guitar:

This is one amazing guitar - I was shocked at how good it0 was.
The pickups are virtually silent - no noise floor. You get a biting P90 / single coil sound without that horrific hum ... I use this guitar for recording -- before picking this up, recording anything soft with my strat or SG with P90s was a nightmare (and trying to gate / EQ / remove noise after recording).
I tried everything from passive input boxes, various plug ins, DIs and modeled amp plug ins ... but this guitar solved them all ...
It gives you a very good humbucker sound, as well as a single coil sound This guitar has tremendous versatility. It is not a Les Paul, it is not a Tele- you have to find your own sound with it, but that's the fun.
The construction is also top notch. I got the gold top which is lovely. The bodu is big - bigger than it appears int he pictures and certainly the body is bigger than a Les Paul. It does have those iconic devil horn cutaways of the classic Vox guitars, so it is a "classic" reminiscent of the 60d and 70d but with a state of the art modern electronic and passive pickup system.
I am most surprised that this guitar has not gotten greater notoriety or acclaim and that the pickups themselves have not become must haves. I own 12 (not 13) different electrics. If I had to choose one guitar to gig with for its versatility not to mention its aesthetics, it would be this guitar.

Comments about Vox SDC-33 Double-Cutaway Solidbody Electric Guitar:

The CoAxe PU's have a unique, clear, full sound and can be switched from humbuckery to single/P-90ish flavor. They sound fantastic through my modded Fender Champ 600, Vibro Champ XD, Peavey Valve King 112. The neck is thin but very fast, playable and frets are even and flat from 1-22. Fret ends were slightly rough. Body contours are comfortable and the overall weight is light. There is slight neck dive but not bad, with a decent strap not noticeable. Tuners and bridge are great quality. With the Tusq nut it has surprisingly good resonance for such a light guitar. I wouldn't say it's a perfect guitar, but if your in search of a unique sounding and looking guitar that has quality components this might be the ticket. The setup on mine was way off, but after tweaking it to spec everything was good and stable. It comes with a nice gig bag and for the money you can't go wrong.

Comments about Vox SDC-33 Double-Cutaway Solidbody Electric Guitar:

A pleasant surprise from Vox: a super affordable high quality guitar. I got the tea burst finish, and it looks sweet. The tone from the pickups is really surprising, especially "single coil" with NO HUM. Seriously, check it out on higher gain with the coil switch set for single, it sounds GREAT. Fit/finish are flawless, the unique bridge is very cool, and the sound is PRO. Get one. I'm considering getting a 2nd...
