Good beginners guitar

Comments about Squier Bullet HH Stratocaster Electric Guitar with Tremolo:

This guitar is good for a beginner guitar or someone who wants a playable guitar but needs to stay on a budget. It has a good sound and stays in tune well with good intonation. When I got it it was in desperate need of a setup as the action was too high and the intonation was far from perfect. It seems that is the difference between some of the more expensive guitars and the cheap ones. Not only are you getting lower quality tuning machines, saddles, and electronics but the factory does not setup the guitar, they simply assemble, package, and ship it. A quarter turn of the truss rod put the neck back into fender specs and a little adjustment to the small allen screws on the saddles fixed the action. Intonation was easy to set as well. All the information you need to set this thing up right can be found on fender's website in the downloadable manuals. Fit and finish on this guitar is close to a standard MIM strat in terms of the feel of the neck and body. The frets have been properly filed and the neck is smooth and straight with no nicks or dings. I have no fret buzz after the adjusting the neck and setting the action to fender specs. The body has a good finish with no blemishes and none of the screws, hardware, or electronics have come loose. In the future it will need the tuning machines replaced as they are starting to get loose and I'm finding myself tuning more frequently. The tuning machines are simply low quality as is expected on a guitar in this price range. Quality tuning machines can be had for a decent price and are easy enough to install so it's not a major concern. The tremolo works fine and with the right gauge of strings, it's setup to use lite to regular gauge strings with a little work on the low E slot in the nut to fit a .046 string, will stay in tune even with some aggressive tremolo work. I would recommend this guitar to anyone looking for something inexpensive to get them playing or to someone who wants to tinker without the possibility of ruining an expensive guitar. I would recommend a setup as this is the key to enjoying this guitar.
