Squier

A full-blown, weeping, screaming, rocking Strat with a phenomenal price tag.

The Squier Affinity Series Stratocaster Electric Guitar has a proud heritage and a sweet price. The contoured solid alder body is the same world-renowned style that fueled the fires of Hendrix, Clapton, SRV, and thousands more. Pure vintage tone comes pounding out of 3 biting single-coil pickups, taking on flavor from a classic rocking tremolo and 5-way switching. Genuine die-cast tuners provide unprecedented tuning stability in this price range. The headstock is the classic '70s "big" style. The maple neck plays fast and feels great. When you trade up, your Affinity Series Strat will be worth far more than any no-name copy.

In the long run, this is a good guitar. But once you begin learning more about them, it's flaws begin to show. The sound is ok and with distortion it gives a good nirvana like quality. After a while everything comes apart. The frets buzz, the action goes off, but like I said it still holds up. Good for non performers or curious guitarist. After the 1st year you probably would want to upgrade, I personally went to an Ibanez RG370DX and the Squier beginning really helped me switch, and appreciate the sound quality of Ibanez.

Very good for an Eric Clapton type of sound, but if you want "nu-metal" sound, I strongly suggest getting a guitar with active pickups. I got this guitar about 2 months ago. It has become my practice guitar. It is definitely worth the price. I'd also recommend getting the Mega-distortion 2 pedal. It is very awesome!

The Stratocaster for the player on a budget

By Phoenix59

Comments about Squier Affinity Series Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

So you want to be the next Jimi Hendrix, Mark Knopfler, or Jeff Beck, but that genuine Fender Strat is breaking the bank? You may want to consider the Squier Affinity Stratocaster. While not on the level of an actual Fender or its big brother, the Squier Classic Vibe series, the Affinity is a respectable guitar -- I'd even venture to say a great guitar for a beginner, and not too shabby even if you've been playing for nearly four decades as I have. OK, so I'm old, so what? (We prefer the term "vintage.) So's the Stratocaster design, which is even older -- er, vintager? than me, having been introduced in 1954. For rock, blues, country, nothing's more versatile than a Strat.

Great Low-Buck Strat

By Timmy The Rodfather

from Allison Park,Pa.

Comments about Squier Affinity Series Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I purchased one of these guitars in Feb.2005,when I began to teach myself guitar after 35 years on drums. Mine is Metallic Red with a maple fretboard. Out of the box,I noticed how well-made the product was for its intended price. Everything worked properly and it sounded pretty decent, even with the stock pickups. It also stayed in tune relatively well. I also got the Fender DVD on learning guitar, and noticed that the instructor used one of these guitars during most of the lessons. Being a pro,he could get some real great sounds out of this product-so I figure that anyone could make this guitar sound awesome just the way it is,if they know what they're doing. After two years and lots of noodling, mine still holds up well-and looks new. I have replaced the pickups with Vintage Noiseless units-but that is really not necessary. I just like to screw around with stuff-and that mod DID NOT make me sound any better. Buy this guitar for your first axe,and learn the proper techniques, and, most of all,PRACTICE-PRACTICE-PRACTICE! Then you'll be really good and will not have to change anything. By then you will have probably noticed other guitars that you like anyway. Great entry-level instrument.

Good, but....

By Jawed Iqbal

Comments about Squier Affinity Series Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

If this is your first guitar purchase and you're not sure what to look for, this is a pretty good guitar and you want be disappointed with the sound. But, it may need some modding i.e. lifting of pickups to make it sound better, especially the bridge pickup. When I first tried this guitar, the bridge pickup barely gave any output. Now it's pretty good. After you adjust the pickups you'll be able to pull a variety of tones ranging from soft to crisp because of the 3 pickups and 2 tone knobs. This guitar is easy to manage, and it's lightweight and seems solid.

Pretty Decent

By METAL GOD

from Bethlehem, PA

Comments about Squier Affinity Series Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

This guitar isn't bad. I had it for 3 years now and it is still in great condition. The pickups can give feedback but if you turn the pickup selector switch so that 2 pickups are being used, the feedback goes away. Also iId like to mention that the placement for the volume and tone knobs are poor. when I play , i end up bumping the volume switch all the time. This guitar does sound great if you fix the pickup selctor switch. I use it for band practices. when I play in performances, I use my SG with maestro trem, though.Caution: the place where you plug in thhe guitar can get loose causing a crackling sound but all in all, this guitar is decent.

pretty good guitar for beginners

By Andrew Gibbons

Comments about Squier Affinity Series Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

This is a pretty good guitar for the price. The volume knob doesn't work that well and the pickups are pretty bad. it does look good though :) I would probably suggest an Ibanez or something like that.

Great Guitar

By just me

from nj

Comments about Squier Affinity Series Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I picked up this guitar just to add a "strat" sound to my arsenal. I did not expect much, but I only wanted it for a few songs anyway and did not see much point blowing a huge wad of cash. I have other instruments that cost 8 times this one, and this holds its own. If you really care about your strat tone, you will probably change the pickups, but other than that this guitar is great. I was amazed out how fast the neck is compared to my Ibanez S series...

Great for a yearly player!

By Dan Boughton

from Indiana

Comments about Squier Affinity Series Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

This is a great guitar for a beginner. It has good action, frets are at a good height, and when plugged in it will make even beginners raise the roof. Great for it's price! If you have been playing guitar for at least two to three years this is not for you.
