A Great Guitar for the Rock Crowd

By Paul C

from Undisclosed

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Hellraiser C-1 Electric Guitar:

I am reviewing the Schecter Hellraiser C-1 in the Black Cherry after playing it at a local store for about 15 hours now. My background is a guitar tech for 4 years, and have been playing about eight. I play all genres of music so this review is not genre-biased in any way

Appearance - The Hellraiser C-1 is a visually stunning guitar, especially in the black cherry. Very glossy and well done finish, and looks like it would be twice the price. The fingerboard is uniformly colored with beautiful inlays and the Black Cherry finish really gives it a luxurious guitar look.

Play: With its smooth rosewood fingerboard, slim neck, and high cutaways, the guitar is very easy to shred on, and the set neck and general construction allow for excellent sustain. It has schecter locking tuners which do a very good job at keeping tune, even in lower tunings such as drop C. The aggressive cutaway allows very easy access to higher frets, and makes solos a breeze. The guitar has a good weight to it, not having the weight of a Les Paul, but also not being too light too. I could play standing up or sitting down for extended periods without any issue.

Sound: The EMGs really set this guitar off. The 81-89 set (Zakk Wylde set) really allow for great versatility in tone, especially with the push pull single-coil taps. Distorted, they give a really nice low end, but allow for screaming highs and are excellent for pinch harmonics. When playing clean, you get a nicer than usual sound from active pickups, but it's definitely a guitar geared for heavier Rock music. The set neck, tune-o-matic bridge and thru-body strings definetely help sustain and tuning as opposed to the higher end model with the Floyd Rose (additional 200-300 dollars)

Overall: This is an incredible guitar, but is strongly designed and geared toward Rock through Heavry rock and Metal. If you're playing with a lot of distortion and want that gritty sound, this guitar delivers. Will it do blues, jazz, and other genres? Yes, but not as well as other guitars. These features are meant for Hard Rock applications, and really pull through.
Bottom line: for the money, a great value for those looking to play hard. Players with a lighter taste should look elsewhere.

AWESOME Guitar!

Comments about Schecter Guitar Research Hellraiser C-1 Electric Guitar:

This Schecter hellraiser is AWESOME!! I finally found a guitar that fits my hands. I have small hands( as I am a girl with short fingers) and the neck of this guitar is perfect for me. The neck is thin and the action is low. The sound is great and with the pickups in this guitar you can hear the difference. This is a great quality guitar. Spending the money on this guitar is worth every penny. The color is fantastic and the binding really makes it look hot! Don't pass this guitar up.
