The standard by which all large-bodied, steel stringed acoustic guitars are measured.

Martin D-28 Dreadnought

Since its introduction in 1931, the Martin D-28 has remained the standard by which all large-bodied, steel stringed acoustic guitars are measured. The large "Dreadnought" sized body, originated by Frank H. Martin and Oliver Hunt in 1916, is named for a class of large British battleship and was considered a radical departure from small parlor-sized guitars of the period. Today, it is the most widely imitated guitar model in the world.
The body of the D-28, built extra wide and deep, utilizes select East Indian rosewood for back and sides, and straight-grained Sitka spruce for the top. The neck is hand-carved from genuine mahogany; the fingerboard and bridge are genuine ebony. It is this combination of materials and body dimensions, as well as the Martin originated X-brace system, that produces the renowned "D-28 sound" -- warm, deep bass response coupled with a strong, clear-as-a-bell treble. The D-28 is particularly well suited to bluegrass and country music styles requiring loud, powerful rhythm accompaniment. The original Dreadnought -- and still the best.

The most famous guitar ever made

By

from Cookeville, TN

Comments about Martin Standard Series D-28 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

The D28 Martin features all the components that make a great guitar: choice tonewoods, X-pattern bracing, an impeccable finish, and it's constructedin the USA by the expert hands of the Martin staff. It doesn't get any better than this, folks. The sound of a D28 is all it's own, booming bass, bright warm mids, and a clear treble, all with volume unsurpassed by any. Buy this guitar and you'll understand why greats like Clarence White, Tony Rice, Lester Flatt, Hank Williams, Elvis Presley, and many others played D28's and why this is the most imitated guitar ever. There's alot of great builders out there nowadays making great guitars, but as the slogan says, "Only a Martin is good enough". Amen.

Perfect

By

from Abilene

Comments about Martin Standard Series D-28 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

This guitar is incredible all around. The neck doesnt have that glossy finish on it so its super fast, and the action was great right out of the box. I have always played Taylors and didnt think i would play anything else, but now I am a Martin man. Te sunburst is stunning against the white binding. I wouldnt trade this guitar for the world. Thanks Martin!

The legendary D-28

By

from Spo Paulo, Brazil.

Comments about Martin Standard Series D-28 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

Out of the box it's a good sounding guitar but nothing spectacular. Play it for a few days though and as it starts opening up you'll feel the urge of playing it more and more. After a couple of weeks you'll understand all the hype and mystique behind the D-28. Then you'll find out why it is considered THE standard steel stringed guitar but be prepared: After that aural bliss you'll probably lose some hours of sleep or even get a little sloppy with your day job. It'll be almost impossible to put it down. Those innocent '5 minutes' can become hours if you don't watch yourself. Although it was specially designed for strong rhythmic play - which makes it a strummer's machine - the overall quality is so high that it can handle it all, a fact that can be backed up by the artists with many diverse styles such as: Lennon, McCartney, Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Jimmy Page, Michael Hedges, etc. I think I'll go play now...

The only acoustic guitar you'll need

By

from Whitefish, MT

Comments about Martin Standard Series D-28 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I have been playing for forty years now. My first good guitar was a Gibson "Hummingbird". In 1980, I bought my 1976 D-28. Over the years the sound has only increased in fullness and projection. I have played bluegrass (primarily) with many musicians and my Martin seems to have the richest overall sound compared to many other fine guitars. I will never sell this guitar.

The greatest

By

from Mississippi

Comments about Martin Standard Series D-28 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I have 10 other guitars, and now they don't sound so good to me. It ruined them for me to play, I may use them some, but you can bet the D28 will get almost all the time, I have to give. What a sound, you have to hear it to believe it.

Sounds like a dream!

By

from Martinsville, VA USA

Comments about Martin Standard Series D-28 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

My first Martin! I now know the meanings of words I've seen in other reviews like "sustain", "balance", "tone", etc. It can't get much better than this D28 (can it!?) And Music123 was incredible to deal with!

incredible guitar!

By

from maryland

Comments about Martin Standard Series D-28 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

This is my first acoustic guitar. I've been playing electric for a year, and I wanted to expand my playing. Every day I play my D-28 it gets better and better. The tone is incredible. I tried a wide range of acoustics and the D-28 had by far the best sound. Fine wood makes all the difference. It's a decent looking guitar, but you won't find a better sounding acoustic!

Plain Jane never sounded so good

By

from United Kingdom

Comments about Martin Standard Series D-28 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I was initially going to buy a Gibson J185, but couldn't import it into the UK. What a choice I made in getting the D28! The trebles are subtle and understated and the bass strings are resonate and ring along with the middle. Plain-looking it may be, but it is incomparable when placed against similar priced guitars for sound. Music 123 also saved me the equivalent of $700 on the cheapest model in Britain, and that includes customs and taxes.

Comments about Martin Standard Series D-28 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

This is a glorious guitar! It may look like any other, but it doesn't sound or play like any other! Every man dreams of owning a Martin. It's the finest acoustic guitar in the world. This guitar is crafted to last. It may be pricey but its well worth it. The Martin logo on the headstock and sound hole gives you great pride of ownership.
