When Smaller Is Better
Comments about LX1E Little Martin Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
When I need to carry my Fishman Loudbox mini amp in one hand and a guitar in the other, this Little Martin is great. In fact, with back pack straps on the gig bag, you have one hand free to open doors for yourself. I found the tone on mine to be solid on all 6 strings for chords and fingerpicking. It has the fuller bass tone of a Martin (as compared to a Taylor.) The electronics are easy to use and intuitive. The high pressure laminate sides do not seem to downgrade the tone much. This guitar is actually hefty feeling for its size. The solid top is thicker than you would expect which probably helps this guitar speak out so well. I did buy an after market pick guard for mine and an SKB soft case for that firm foam protection and light weight. The action comes a little high. Martin will send you a lower bridge for free, if you ship them the original bridge for free. For myself, I will have a guitar tech lower the strings for me. Just my preference.

It's a Martin!!
Comments about LX1E Little Martin Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
I have several guitars including a Martin D-28 I bought about 20 years ago. I bought this guitar a few months ago as a beater and for my kids to learn on; however, I find myself playing it much more than I expected. The sound is great for the size and it's inexpensive enough that I don't mind being less protective of it than I am with my D-28. Granted, it's obviously not a high-end martin (weak in the bass, laminate, etc.), but I can honestly say it's been a long time since I purchased a guitar that I enjoy as much as this one. I purchase an LX1E because I wanted the solid spruce top with the electronics. I have yet to amp it, but I find the solid top to be worth the extra money. I normally don't do these reviews, but felt strongly enough about it to say something. I also went ahead and purchased a Martin D12X1 based on the better-than-expected performance from the LX1E. Good stuff!
