Loved it so much, I bought 2!

By Jeff Althof

from Imperial Beach, CA

Comments about Martin D-16GT Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I was looking for a guitar for my son for a high school graduation present. Tried the Taylors, but there was something in the tone that was missing... They were too 'tinny'. Picked up this Martin, and immediately fell in love. Bought one for my son and sent it to him... 2 weeks later, I was 'Jones-ing' for the sound coming from that guitar... I went back and bought one for myself!! Lightweight, beautiful tone... Sounds like angels singing!! I can't say enough about this guitar. If you're serious about a nice guitar without electronics included, BUY THIS ONE!!

The tone sold me

By Scott Adams

from Gurnee, IL

Comments about Martin D-16GT Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I did my homework before buying. I researched the D-18, D-28, and the D16GT. Also, I was always partial to Gibson until I played the D16GT against the Gibson J-45 and the Gibson Songwriter Deluxe. The tone of the D16GT was far superior to the Gibson models. I was completely surprised. I played the D-18 against the D16GT and actually liked the tone and action of the D16GT better. The D-28 at twice the price is a great guitar but its twice the price. I love this thing.

Great Axe!

By Mark-WC5PC

Comments about Martin D-16GT Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I purchased my D16GT a year and a half ago. I played the Hd28, and the D28. I 16 sounded as good or better! For the money, you won't go wrong. Also, it is built to Martin's high standards. I brought the action down a bit. I also installed a transducer and it sounds awesome plugged in! I'm happy.

Great value Fantastic guitar

By Ray Crowley

from Ireland

Comments about Martin D-16GT Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

Straight out of the box, the action on this guitar was not only perfect, I didn't even have to change the strings as they were fresh. (Will be changing them for a set of 12`s to get more volume and bass). I was a little suspicious of the black Micarta though, when you buy an acoustic guitar for over almost 800 Euro, you don't want to hear the word plastic mentioned. To be honest, it doesn't effect the tone of the guitar at all. This is my first solid wood guitar. (I own a martin DXM ,which served its purpose but will probably never be played again) I`ve read a lot about the D-28 and guitars I like, but I just don't believe that for a guitar thats over double in price, that its going to be twice as good. In a few years time, this guitar will sound even better! (if thats even possible) Martin has done it again.

Great guitar, but....

By david e.

from Rural England (Suffolk)

Comments about Martin D-16GT Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I'm a veteran guitar player, with many fine instruments. The D16GT is a great guitar, but things to note about it are:I recorded it using a Neumann large diaphragm mic into an analogue desk and thence to a Fostex D160 digital recorder. I also recorded a Fyle Orsino (79) and a Martin Shenandoah (83), so I could compare. The D16GT sound is interesting: lots of warm bass, quite crisp at the top, but rather nasal in the midrange. The Shenandoah sounded better on tape. It sounded like a classic Martin.Be Fair!! the D16GT is brand new. Give it a chance to mellow. It loves light strings which is a great bonus, and unusual for a Martin. I reckon if you listen hard enough you can tell the bridge is not made if wood. Still,we are talking lots less $$$, so its worth it: providing it hangs together for 20-30years plus like some of the other axes! Bit nervous about that, the new bracing and how it will stand the test of time.

The Sound is Perfect

By S.J.S.

from Bristol, VA USA

Comments about Martin D-16GT Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I love the sound of the D-16 GT, which is better than its expensive counterparts, at a mere fraction of their price! Ironically, you could spend thousands of dollars more for a guitar that doesn't nearly sound as good as the D16 GT.The best part of the guitar itself lies within the fact that the tones are evenly balanced within a full range. The tones created by this instrument are pure and accurate. It is simple, yet does the job and does it well. I'll bet you'll think so too!

Fantastic guitar

By Mike L-Mq9ly

from Chicago, Il

Comments about Martin D-16GT Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I was considering various models, specifically the D-15, and D1. As for the 15, I could not get past its drab appearance, and much prefer the brighter spruce tone. For this kind of money you'd better love the look of that box when you pull it from the case. The D1 is a nice guitar, but for an extra $100, the 16GT gives you all solid woods and a gloss finished top. Plus, I was worried that the satin top would not wear well. I have had the D-16GT for a couple of weeks now and I am thrilled with my purchase. The guitar looks, smells and plays fabulously. I am a fan of dark fretboards, and the Micarta fingerboard is beautiful and plays like a dream. The tone and intonation on the guitar is wonderful. When I opened the case for the first time I noticed what I thought was a flaw in the gloss finish. On closer examination, I noticed that this was a slightly darker ripple in the natural wood grain. Was this normal? After researching Martins website, I discovered that their policy is to accept natural flaws like this provided the soundboard is structurally and tonally sound. So as not to waste perfectly good spruce tops. Personally, I don't mind as it gives the instrument an element of uniqueness. I can easily identify MY guitar sans serial number. I really took my time researching and playing various instruments. In the end, I had to have a Martin and am confident that I opted for the right instrument. For a solid wood guitar in the $1000 range, this is the choice. I could not be happier.

Well worth the price.

By Scotty Windham

from Central Louisiana

Comments about Martin D-16GT Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

This guitar is truly one of the finest I have ever played. I own a Fender and an Ovation, which have now been retired to their respective boxes. I love my Martin. The sound and playability is superb, far above my expectations. It was in perfect tune right out of the box, which was most impressive. My other guitars are 20-25 yrs old and have mellowed. The Martin sounds better now, I can hardly wait to hear it when it gets a little age on it. Wonderful instrument, can't go wrong with this one.

Nice instrument

By Jo-IMsBp

from Tongeren, Belgium, Europe

Comments about Martin D-16GT Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I ordered the D-16GT from Music123 about 2 months ago. I live in Belgium, Europe and it took about 12 days for it to arrive after the order. Fast and correct shipping, nicely packed. Congratulations on that Music123! The guitar itself comes with the action too high. I've been told this is standard for Martins. I put some extra light d'Addario's on it,like Dave Matthews does, and now it plays fine. The sacrifice in tone is there but believe me it's worth changing the strings. The guitar has a nice deep bass on the low E string, but other than that I was not blown away by the sound like most of you were. Still, for the price paid, nothing beats a Martin. A good buy, but I'm saving up for a higher model, possibly a D35 or a D28HV. Thanks Music123 for the fantastic price, it's unbeatable! I'm only buying guitar equipment from this site from now on!

Beautiful Tone, Beautiful Guitar

By Scott Gant

from St. Joseph, MI

Comments about Martin D-16GT Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I bought a Fender Standard US Strat, but just wasn't happy with it. My roots had always been acoustic. So I returned it and opted for a similar priced acoustic. As soon as I picked up the Martin D-16 I knew I was home. It felt right in my hands, the finish and detail was simple yet beautiful and the tone was just outstanding. I'm in love with this guitar now and I can't put it down. It's a guitar that will be handed down to my son and hopefully he will hand it down to his child. I would go so far as to say it's become an heirloom for our family.
